I’ll be redrawing a character I really like and have drawn several times—this being my third version—but this time we’ll give it a much more kawaii twist.

In the wiki, we find that the First Lady of the Dark Eternals was born long ago, among the distant whispers of a humble life in Lyveria, as the daughter of a simple farmer. We begin with the sketch—I always like to make my sketches in blue, something I carried over from traditional drawing and haven't abandoned, even digitally. Drawing chibis is quite easy once you're familiar with the body and basic shapes. One important thing to keep in mind is that the drawing canon for chibis is very different from that of a normal figure: the head is much larger, and the arms, hands, and legs are rounded. I gradually added the details—colored the hair, clothes, and the witch's pointy hat. I really liked the sketch, so I added her broom and spellbook.

Comenzamos con el boceto, siempre me gusta hacer los bocetos en azul, algo que traje de los dibujos tradicionales y no he abandonado ni siquiera en digital. Dibujar chibis es muy fácil una vez que conoces el cuerpo y las formas básicas. Algo muy importante a tener en cuenta es que el canon de dibujo de los chibis es muy distinto al canon de dibujos de una figura normal: la cabeza es mucho más grande y los brazos, manos y piernas son redonditos. With the sketch ready, next comes something a bit tedious but just as fun—creating the line art for the entire drawing. At this stage, I have to choose which lines from the sketch to keep, and those small decisions can greatly impact the final result. During the process, I also play around with line thickness to create a sense of depth. Once the line art is finished, I like to apply a base color to the entire drawing to paint over. In this case, I chose a color very similar to the character’s skin tone.

En este momento hay que escoger con cuáles líneas del boceto quedarnos, y esas pequeñas decisiones pueden influir mucho en el resultado final. En este caso, decidí un color muy parecido al tono de piel del personaje.

In particular, I really love the second fan art—I think it’s beautiful and truly represents my drawing style, somewhere between relaxed and stylized.
