All games change over time.
When I play other games, sometimes the introduction of a new character, item or skill tree can change the way I play the game. When I played War Robots, they introduced a new weapon that made my existing weapons look weak. Or when World of Warships adds a new line of ships, I have to decide what to grind.
This is part of most games today. It is never the "same old, same old" as the days of PAC-MAN. Today games are much more complex and can change often. The concept of "meta" can change with new buffs or nerfs. League of Legends is always slightly different each season when new characters are added and other "tweaks" are released.
Splinterlands NFT game
#Splinterlands (SPL) is a TCG (Trading Card Game) that introduces new cards yearly. This alone can change the meta and play style! All TCG has these features, and many players accept this as part of the norm.
SPL is also evolving, adding other "game modes." Land, Boss Fights and Tower Defense are good examples of what will be added soon. Some of these changes are to introduce new ways to use your assets. When assets have different utility, this creates a demand and increases its value. This is what I love about Splinterlands. I believe the team understands this concept, and that is why I think they make the right choices for this game!

SPS Staking
This week was the release of SPS staking, which changed how LEAGUE works. Previously, you needed Collection Power (based on cards) to increase and to play in higher leagues.
With this change, you need to stake SPS. The higher the league, the more SPS you need to earn RP. I like this change, even if it means I will make fewer rewards for the following year. Today, you can see my current multiplier is 2.3x!! I will most likely earn 1 or 2 gold chests per day.
This update has caused many players to feel frustrated by the changes.
What do I need to do now?
Let's first look at the fact:
- I play with bronze-level cards.
- I'm missing many EPIC and LEGENDARIES cards from Chaos Legion.
- My deck is less than $400 in value (with much of it in Gold Foil cards).
I have played in silver and gold leagues using this bronze-level deck. Due to rating inflation, I could earn a GOLD-level chest and increase my chances of getting better rewards.
However, two things are apparent. I have used an under-leveled deck to earn gold-level reward chests! The second is, was the reward system too generous? Is it possible that I have gotten used to achieving GOLD chest when I should be in BRONZE and maybe Silver 3?
While I can rent SPS or buy SPS, I think I will drop back down to where my DECK should be playing. I'm not MAD at all. I am grateful to earn the rewards when it was easy to get 4-6 daily chests daily.
I have around 2K SPS today after playing for over a year. The key is to find the right balance between SPS and Cards. This is by the design of what the SPS staking is forcing the players to look at. In the past, many players choose to buy more cards and level them up. Today, you can't just do that without looking at the SPS you have. It might make sense to move some assets around and get MORE SPS!
Since I'm a bronze-level deck holder, my perspective might be limited. And while my experience is not the same as yours, I went from a 10x baseline to a 2x multiplier --> hence earning one GOLD chest a day now. I can understand others are frustrated when their rewards are "nerfed." I rather focus on how to pivot than look at the rearview mirror and see what happened before July 6.
My views as an investor.
Rewards and earnings should be measured in YEARS and not weeks or days. Don't get me wrong. I made 14% in RIOT on July 7, but I don't buy stock for short-term play. I prefer to own a business for decades.
I joined SPL to "test" the waters on NFT gaming. Most games don't last this long. Most games' economies are poorly designed. While I had made nothing on my asset, I'm not here for one or two seasons. I want to enjoy the game as it evolves.
I still believe in NFT gaming.
I still believe in the SPL team.
I still believe TCG is one of the best genres for NFT assets.
Only time will tell if I'm right or not.
Let me know how you are going to pivot.

Good post, and also good analysis of your situation in the game, you know where you stand and that's the most important thing, you can do better.
Agreed.
Change is the only constant.
