Bear market cycle

Regular market cycles happen in the stock market and the Crypto market. #Splinterlands is a web3, blockchain-backed trading card game (TCG). Most* cards are an asset called #NFT, which you can buy, sell or trade. Some cards are starter cards or soul-bound which are a bit different!

In bear markets, the usual thing people do is sell. There is a rush to the exit. The "panic" leads to a capitulation. So now is the best time to play, when everyone has FEAR and is selling their assets! I plan to continue buying one or two cards a month.

Low prices on Asset, time to buy

It's hard to tell people to buy when assets are moving to zero. The Chaos Legions (CL) Rare Summoners have dropped from around $4 to a low of .40 cents. Many people often look at the prices where they got in. Even if you paid $2 for one of these cards, you lost 50% of its value!

However, if you believe this game will last many years, now is an excellent time to buy. Just like investing in the stock market, money is often made when others are avoiding the stock market.

Invest Time and Attention (according to Dwayne)

Most #play2earn game usually has some reward system that gives you something for grinding and playing the game. They are often designed this way to encourage more gameplay. Splinterlands (SPL) has daily ranked battles that give you a daily chest. They have guild battles weekly. Many Tournaments happen each week as well. Each month has two seasons where you get MORE chest for your daily matches. The time you put in now will earn you Reward Cards, Merits and SPS.

@infidel1258 (Dwayne) often repeats the concept if you put in the "TIME and Attention" needed to collect these trivial prizes and assets today, that in 4 years, you will see the benefit. This is why he runs the "Time&Attention" Guild! He has been teaching and promoting how this could be fun and rewarding on his YouTube channel.

I agree with his opinion! Cards worth one penny today can be worth .05 cents in the future. A $10 card can be worth $20 or $30 later. Prices move based on the supply and demand of the asset. In the game, cards get combined and leveled up as more players move up in the league. I have many more years of leveling my cards, so I will slowly collect more!

My account value (as of July 21) - $450

I have been playing since Oct 2021. The first year was slow and painful. I could not get out of Novice and Bronze since I only had less than $100 of cards (based on cards that were 2x-10x more value back then). This means I only had a few cards, plus the starter cards. However, each month, I get new reward cards for playing.

Several months ago, my deck value was around $200! By season 112 it hit $300. Then it continued to drop back down as card prices were falling. Now prices look stable, and my account value is growing again.

Today my deck is worth over $400!

Let me explain what happened!

It wasn't until around Jan of 2023 that I started sticking to a simple game plan for playing SPL. While most people sell GOLD FOIL cards to buy regular foil cards, I went in the opposite direction. This was a better choice since all my cards were BRONZE Level.

I often needed to buy a single GF BCX to play that card at the bronze-level league. I have ZERO GF EPIC and Legendary cards. Due to the high cost, most of my Epic and Legendary cards are regular foil. Having an all-GF bronze deck is very expensive. My goal was NOT to move to DIAMOND / CHAMPION, as many people did, but to collect the missing cards I needed.

If you play Pokemon, you know they use the tagline "Collect them all"! That was my mindset when I switched to a GF deck. I will use regular foil cards in ranked battles but focus on building and playing the GF deck for Guild's frays.

When SPS staking happened at the start of July (6th) 2023, this did not hurt me as much since I had a bunch of low-level GF cards. I still had to adjust my thinking of playing most of the season in the correct league to earn more than one daily chest. The difference between playing in Silver was earning between 3-5 daily vs only ONE gold chest.

I also have to collect/stake SPS for a long time before I am ready to move up. In the meantime, I still focus on getting more GF cards to win more battles in different rulesets. That is the key with cards. The more you have, the more choices you have.
