Camila Sungazer | My entry for Splinterlands Social Media Challenge for this week!
Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!
Hello guys and welcome back to my new art blog. I'm posting early this week because I decided to work a bit more on the contest entry tomorrow. For this challenge I decided to draw Camila the Sungazer. I liked the purple and yellow colour palette on this card so I decided to make this character in a bit more realistic style. Tell me what you think of my version :)

The Process...
I had some trouble finding a proper pose for this character. I didn't want to make her zoomed out. After searching on Pinterest for a while I found a pose which suits my preference. I made a rough sketch on paper and imported it to Ibis paint app and made clean lineart in there. I noticed a lot of anatomical errors in there so I fixed them by using lasso tool and liquify tool. After I was done with that I started to paint the base layers. This character doesn't have much accessories except her sun staff so the painting was done quickly on clothing layer.
The eye rendering was fun to do. I was testing somethings again on this painting as well. I didn't make the pupil pitch black this time. Instead I added a touch of red at the center of the pupil. My aim was to make it look shiny so I zoomed out and added some colours here and there to achieve that effect. This won't work if you do it in zoomed in mode.
Took some time to render the skin though. This character has yellowish skin so I did shifted the skin hue slightly to that tint but not too much. I had some trouble finding the right colours for shading the skin but eventually I figured it out. Once I applied the highlights and shadows in there everything started to make sense. Finally the skin layer was finished by adding some freckles on the skin. I like to add these because it gives a realistic feel to the skin. I also added some textures in there by adding some strokes of 5 line brush.
The hair is no more a struggle. The highlights decides the flow and I add shadows and strands according to that. In the final version I also added a rim light on the right side to make it look interesting. After I was done rendering the hair I also added some textures on hair as well as the clothing. I moved on to making that sun shaped metal background next because her staff is hidden so I decided to paint it behind her atleast. Finally, I decided to make the left side a bit more dark and added blue rim lights there for fun. I'm glad you enjoyed the process and I hope you guys like my work!
