Why This 3 Mana Unit Deserves A Spot In Your Lineup

Cover.png
The one who provides balance and stability makes the whole group stronger without asking for attention. That is the story of Ujurak Elder. In every game there are units that stand out for their stats, the ones people remember for landing the final blow., but sometimes the real MVPs are the quiet units in the backline who never draw fire but still change the flow of the match. They don't draw attention but they are the reason why you win the match.

Lore

Many elders of Panopia’s Ujurak Tribe have joined Prophet Rosa as she sets forth on a pilgrimage that will take them from the plains of the Northeast Coastal Steppes to deep into the Drybone Badlands.

While they may very well pay the ultimate price by journey’s end, a chance to end the Chaos Empire and free the tribes of Panopia is worth the cost.

Stats

Ujurak Elder.jpg

Ujurak Elder is a low mana unit that is a surprisingly useful especially in higher levels. In lower levels, Ujurak Elder is just a damage dealer but on higher levels, he can support the team with Swiftness and Strengthen. It doesn’t hit very hard but its role is more about enabling allies and creating better trades over time.

Abilities

IconNameDescription
Camouflage.pngCamouflageThis Unit cannot be directly targeted for attacks unless it's in the first position.
Strengthen.png is a match because Extra health helps protect allies while Camouflage ensures Ujurak Elder cannot be targeted directly, letting its buffs stay active longer. This creates a strong backbone for the whole team.
Scattershot.png is a counter because Since Scattershot changes the attack to random, it bypasses Camouflage and can randomly hit Ujurak Elder because the attack is not a target anymore. Even one unlucky Scattershot attack, if the damage is enough, can remove Ujurak Elder from the play early.
Divine Shield.pngDivine ShieldThe first time the Unit takes damage it is ignored.
Rebirth.png is a match because If it gets Rebirth like in Born Again rule, Ujurak Elder can come back to life with Divine Shield still offering protection against the first hit, making it much more resilient. This combo is rare but powerful.
Double Strike.png is a counter because Units that hit twice per round can break through the Divine Shield and still damage Ujurak Elder in the same round. For this to happen, Ujurak Elder must be in the front because of Camouflage or hit by a random attack like when an enemy has Scattershot.
Strengthen.pngStrengthenAll friendly Units have their Health increased by 1.
Strengthen.png is a match because Stacking multiple Strengthen abilities across your team greatly increases total health it can provide. Ujurak Elder fits nicely into such builds because it is cheap and safe.
Weaken.png is a counter because This ability cancels out the benefit of Strengthen, meaning Ujurak Elder’s Strengthen is wasted if enemies bring Weaken. In close fights this can tip the balance against you without the Strengthn advantage.
Swiftness.pngSwiftnessAll friendly Units have their Speed increased by 1.
Dodge.png is a match because Extra speed improves the chance for a unit to dodge an attack. With Dodge increasing that chance more, it makes that unit much harder to hit. This can save squishy units from certain death or makes your tanks last longer.
True Strike.png is a counter because Completely ignores the evasion benefits of speed from Swiftness making Swiftness useless in that matchup. That partof Ujurak Elder’s ability feels wasted if the enemy unit have this ability.

Good Rules to Consider

IconNameReason
Target Practice.pngTarget PracticeAll units with magic and ranged attacks have Snipe (magic and ranged attacks target the first non-melee enemy unit behind the first position).
Camouflage keeps Elder untargetable even when enemies have Snipe allowing it to survive longer while still buffing the team. This makes Elder a safe unit that can increase your team's stats. The safety of Camouflage is an underrated benefit that a lot does not realize.
Equalizer.pngEqualizerThe initial Health of all Units is equal to that of the Units on either team with the highest base Health.
Ujurak Elder’s normally low 3 health is boosted to match others covering its main weakness. With Strengthen, it even adds more effective health for the team. Equalizer makes Elder a lot sturdier and a last man savior.
Little League.pngLittle LeagueOnly Units & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles.
At only 3 mana, Elder fits perfectly into the restrictions of Little League rule. Few units, with this mana, in this rule bring as much team support with multiple abilities making him a really good pick in Little League rule.

Bad Rules to Think Twice

IconNameReason
Earthquake.pngEarthquakeNon-flying Units take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Without Flying, Elder takes free damage each turn and usually dies quickly. Its low health makes it a liability in this rule. The buffs it brings will also vanish if it dies. Camouflage does not protect him from damage because Earthquake damage does not target anyone.
Noxious Fumes.pngNoxious FumesAll Units start the battle Poisoned.
With only 3 health at max level, Elder cannot last long in matches where everyone is poisoned. Even with Strengthen giving it an extra health, it will be one of the first units to die. Its low cost doesn’t matter when it lasts for only 2 rounds.
Reverse Speed.pngReverse SpeedUnits with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
Ujurak Elder has 3 speed plus Swiftness, which is harmful in this rule where slower units gain the advantage. With Swiftness, you're just helping the enemy hit your team more by increasing their speed.

Link to battle

In this battle, I used Marlai Singariel in order to make a team full of magic attack. This boost the damage of my team by a lot. I have Giant Alpine Skink, Warborn Shaman, and Abyssal Elemental for tanks and Chaos Adjutant and Ujurak Elder for damage. Ujurak Elder is placed last because even though he have low health, he cannot be targeted by attacks unless he is in the front. To prove this, he only has 2 health and he should be the target of the enemy Broken Earth Thug, Chaos Jailer and Conclave Tracker because of Opportunity but wasn't attacked because of Camouflage.
