That One Time I Got Completely Destroyed
Battles in Splinterlands don’t always go the way we plan. Sometimes a strategy looks strong on paper, but when the fight starts, small details can make all the difference. That’s why, after matches, I like breaking things down and seeing why the result of that battle turned out as it is.
Even a simple choice like units with big health, abilities, or lineup order can change the outcome of the battle in surprising ways. Wins feel good but losses usually explain more about what we need to fix. By looking at both, we can apply the new knowledge to the next game and avoid mistakes that made you lose.
Battle Loss

In this battle, I lost and my enemy stomped me hard. They had a better team and abilities that directly works in Global Warming rule. Their use of Marlai Singariel and Weapons Training was amazing and I did not think about doing it but will do it in the future.
Lineup Breakdown
Archon: Marlai Singariel
Unit 1: Commander Slade
Unit 2: Warborn Shaman
Unit 3: Abyssal Elemental
Unit 4: Captain Fellblade
Unit 5: Frostguard Warrior
Unit 6: Chaos Battlemage
I have a very simple team. Commander Slade serves as my tank. Heh as high health and armor able to withstand any attacks. If in case he dies, I have Warborn Shaman, a high magic attack unit with good armor and Void armor. Void armor allows him to use his armor to block magic attacks. Abyssal Elemental serves as my third tank. Not so good damage but has Resurgence, allowing him to revive once more with full health and armor but will deal damage to all units when reviving. Captain Fellblade works great with Marlai Singariel as she has two attacks and Sneak. Both magic attack, boosted by Marlai Singariel, and her own melee attack does Sneak which makes her act like 2 units in one body. Lastly, I have two ranged units, Frostguard Warrior and Chaos Battlemage. Honestly, I added them as a filler. I reallywant another magic attack unit but don't have strong ones so they filled the last two slots instead. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
Analyzing Opponent's Lineup
Archon: Marlai Singariel
Unit 1: Ulundin Overseer
Unit 2: Daarg Deadblast
Unit 3: Mystic Scaleweaver
Unit 4: Zargrul
Unit 5: Jicarilla the Rime
Unit 6: Anasth Soothslayer
The enemy's lineup is more consistent and stronger. All of their units uses magic attack. Ulundin Overseer even got magic attack from Daarg Deadblast's Weapons Training. Behind him was Mystic Scaleweaver. I think she is just there as a filler. They have a second tank, Zargrul, a high health unit with Taunt to redirect my attacks. Because of this unit, my Sneak and Snipe attacks did not reach the proper targets which made me lose. Lastly, they have two units, Jicarilla the Rime and Anasth Soothsayer. Jicarilla the Rime has Cleanse Rearguard removing the burning from any back line while Anasth Soothsayer has Cleanse removing the Burning from their tank, Ulundin Overseer. On top of that, Anasth Soothsayer also have Tank Heal to give Ulundin Overseer some of his lost health.
Strategy Worked?
Needless to say, my strategy did not work. I was planning to spam strong attacks before the burning consume my health but the enemy team has a better overall lineup. Their tanks both past 10 health while mine doesn't. The huge difference in health is obvious and I think is the main defining difference.
Other Thoughts
While the enemy was smart and used Cleanse and Cleanse Rearguard to clean the burning for their team, I don't suggest this. The reason is unlike Poison, the burning effect spreads so the cleansed one will get burning still after a few rounds. Unless you get lucky and consecutively cleanse the burning and it doesn't spread, the I don't think it's a good idea to focus on.
Another thing is the enemy's use of Daarg Deadblast. I completely forgot about this unit and it would be really good with Marlai Singariel. Daarg Deadblast has magic attack so the units getting benefit from Weapons Training will also get magic attack. Weapons Training apply first before Marlai Singariel's ability so the 2 magic attack given by Daarg Deadblast gets +1 magic attack from Marlai Singariel putting it to 3. That was a very smart idea. It's very simple but also very effective. This strategy is also very effective when you have low mana because a lots of units with no attack has relatively low mana but decent health. Units like Daigendark Surveyor only needs 2 mana and at level 5, she can have 7 health. Add Weapons Training on top of that and you have a strong semi-tank unit for almost free.
