Little Slimey's Pick of the Week | Nerissa Tridawn

Usually, I select my units based on the abilities and set strategy for that battle. There are a few exceptions and Nerissa Tridawn is one of them. Her stats is enough for me to appreciate her and be one of my mains when I play a Water team.

I've also got an amazing battle down below, something that is not commonly seen. It's a 1v1 between two magic attacking units. Nerissa Tridawn or Captain Katie? Place your bets everyone and let's see who emerge as the winner.

Lore

Nerissa is a proud warrior of the water. Armed with her enchanted trident, she defends the seas, the rivers, and the lakes. She is well known across coastal villages, and they often call on her for help. She has slain great sea beasts that would otherwise kill everyone in their path. She has rescued sailors from hurricanes, and even warned villages of incoming tsunamis to save lives. Her bravery and brilliance in battle have led to her being called Nerissa the Hurricane.

Nerissa was born and raised by the ocean, and could swim before she could walk. She always felt the sea called to her. And within her it stirred a deep magic. An ancient mana of tides and waves. Nerissa answered the call, and travels between the continents of the Splinterlands.

Stats

Nerissa Tridawn has good stats and high damage. The lack of abilities may be problematic against certain rules but overall, she is a good unit. Personally, the high damage and high health really makes up for the lack of abilities and that is why Nerissa Tridawn is one of my mains for my Water team.

Good Rules to Consider

back to basics.pngBack to BasicsUnits lose all abilities.
Because of Nerissa Tridawn's lack of abilities, she is one of the few units that are really good at Back to Basics rule. Her good stats makes her really strong in this rule where abilities don't matter. You even have the choice to make her a front line like a tank or keep her safe to maximize her damage. I like using her on the second position, usually behind Djinn Oshannus to act as a backup tank.
Wands Out.pngWands OutOnly units with magic attacks may be used.
On Wands Out rule, you want units that either have Void ability or units with high stats. I like using Nerissa Tridawn behind Djinn Oshannus in Wands Out rule and this position carried me a lot on games. With a huge 5 magic attack, Nerissa Tridawn can usually kill any enemies within 3 attacks especially in Wands Out rule.
Explosive Weaponry.pngExplosive WeaponryAll units have Blast (deals an additional 50% damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up).
Nerissa Tridawn's high 5 magic attack means she also does high splash damage due to Blast. With 5 magic attack, her splash blast damage deals 3 magic each. This is really strong as the blast damage cannot be blocked by armor. Be prepared because your enemies might also use the same strategy against you but if they don't, hey, free win!

Bad Rules to Think Twice

IconNameReason
Weak Magic.pngWeak MagicMagic attacks hit Armor before reducing Health.
Nerissa Tridawn doesn't get any benefit because she doesn't have any armor. She also gets a disadvantage since her attacks are now blocked by armor. While she gets a disadvantage on this rule, you can use it to your advantage as well by using Kelya Frendul or Venari Wavesmith for that extra armor.
Counterspell.pngCounterspellAll units have Magic Reflect (returns 50% of magic damage to attacker, rounded up).
Because of Nerissa Tridawn's high magic attack Counterspell rule is bad for her. In this rule, everyone gets Magic Reflect which returns a portion of magic attack back to the attacker. Each of Nerissa Tridawn's attack returns 3 magic damage back to her making it very dangerous to play her under these conditions.
Equalizer.pngEqualizerThe initial Health of all Units is equal to that of the Units on either team with the highest base Health.
This can be good or bad depending on the available units. Your enemies can get better units than you though because you spent your 9 mana with Nerissa Tridawn while enjoying the high health she gives to all units because of Equalizer rule. I still use Nerissa Tridawn in this rule even though the enemies might use her as a health boost because of her high magic attack. I also use the rule to my advantage by adding a 0 mana Torrent Fiend giving me a free instant 9 health unit to block enemy attacks.

This is a very unique battle. I don't know why he did it but even looking at it, you can see that my Nerissa Tridawn can win due to her high stats. I wanted to show off this battle because it's really seldom that you can see a 1v1 in Splinterlands. These battles are very rare.
