Little Slimey's Pick of the Week | Vruz

Cover.gif
Whenever I see this unit, my immediate thought was, "Was he invented during the COVID era?" I really like the naming of this unit. He has that gen Z rizz as if he has that rapper name. I wonder if Vruz was really intended as a dragon unit or a death unit with the new Poison Burst ability?

Lore

Nowadays, Vruz only takes on the jobs that everyone else says are impossible, and he soon proves they're not. His favorite ventures? Fulfilling contracts for dragons… which usually entails stealing some priceless artifact from another dragon. And with every success, his notoriety has grown. Today, stories of his heists and escapades have become the stuff of campfire tales and folklore. Perhaps you've heard one or two of them before.

How about the story about how Vruz stole the High Ring of Thanaloria from the ancient and terrible wyrm, Rage? The Ebonhood had been hired to retrieve it, but no one was volunteering for the job. They all said it was impossible.

Stats

Card Vruz.PNG

Vruz is a must have for Dragon units. If you have him, there's no reason not to use him. He has high stats for a 2 mana unit and whether Vruz live or die, you are sure that he can contribute to your team.

Abilities

IconNameDescription
Sneak.pngSneakTargets the last Unit on the enemy Team instead of the first Unit.
Inspire.png is a match because Vruz and units with Sneak are usually melee units. Even Super Sneak rule tells you that it only affects melee units. Therefore, Inspire which increases the attacks of your melee units can be a really good ability to use with Vruz.
Super Sneak.png is a counter because Super Sneak rule is bad because it removes one ability from Vruz. Vruz already has Sneak so getting another Sneak from Super Sneak rule does not give him any other benefit.
martyr.pngMartyrWhen this Unit dies, adjacent Units get +1 to all stats.
Resurrect.png is a match because Martyr does not have a limit on how many times it can be used. When the unit is revived, the unit can use Martyr again allowing you to use one Martyr unit multiple times.
Final Rest.png is a counter because Final Rest is a new ability that will be released in Conclave Arcana. It's an ability that would negate any abilities that would activate when a unit dies. Unfortunately, this also affects your own units so don't use units with this ability when you are the one using Vruz.
True Strike.pngTrue StrikeThis Unit's attacks cannot miss.
Relentless Strike.png is a match because This is just a concept but if you have an Archon that would give Vruz a Relentless Strike, it would be a good combo. Relentless Strike does true damage+1 which means Void, Shield and Forcefield ability would not work and still gets full damage. It also gets increased damage when attacking units with those three abilities.
Thorns.png is a counter because Thorns deals 2 damage to any melee unit that attack that unit. Since Vruz cannot miss with True Strike, then all of his attacks will also damage him. This is usually good since you want Vruz to die to get Martyr but when combined with Final Rest, Thorns becomes a very bad thing for Vruz.

Good Rules to Consider

IconNameReason
Reverse Speed.pngReverse SpeedUnits with the lowest Speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.
Martyr not only increases health, armor and attack but also increases Speed which makes units miss more because of this rule.
back to basics.pngBack to BasicsUnits lose all abilities.
Vruz can be used as a substitute for 1 mana units but he can't really do anything here and all of his abilities also goes to waste. I'd prefer using someone like Xenith Archer here because Vruz can't attack unless he is in the front.
Fog of War.pngFog of WarUnits lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities.
Vruz is still usable in this rule but the removal of his Sneak forces you to play Vruz in the 1st or 2nd position. Doing so in the 2nd position makes him unable to attack or help the team until he dies.

Bad Rules to Think Twice

IconNameReason
Briar Patch.pngBriar PatchAll units have Thorns (returns 2 damage to attacker when hit by a melee attack)
One use of Vruz is his Martyr ability that makes your other units stronger. The Thorns from this rule makes him die quicker so you can use Martyr faster.
Up Close and Personal.pngUp close & PersonalOnly Units with Melee attack may be used in battles.
Vruz is just a good unit overall. He can be a sneak unit or just used for martyr effect.
Born Again.pngBorn AgainAll units have Rebirth (self-resurrects once per battle with 1 health and 100% of armor; all magic debuffs are removed, and all magic buffs are reapplied; skips turn).
Martyr works when Vruz dies. With that idea, Rebirth makes him use Martyr a second time on the second death.

Link to battle

In this battle, I placed Vruz in the first position not to act as a tank but because I am hoping to use his Martyr ability early. I want him to boost Void Dragon's stats, which is my main tank. This happened on Turn 10 which returned my Void Dragon's lowered speed because of the enemy summoner. This helped a lot because Void Dragon's main protection is evading melee and range attacks. For any magic attacks, his Void ability kicks in. With the increased stats from Vruz's Martyr, he was able to dodge Quora Towershead's, Thanalorian Blade's, and Halaran Huntress's melee attacks which would've made my situation bad. These misses are very important as I could've lost this game without those.

On Other News

I'm currently stuck between Gold 1 and Diamond 3 and I don't know what else to do. My builds suddenly stopped working and I can't compete with players having max Eternal Tofu. It suddenly felt high level. I hope Conclave Arcana comes out to finally change the teams I am competing against.
