Legends in the Making, My Journey as a Slime in Splinterlands

It's been a month since I joined Splinterlands. I still haven't received any votes from Splinterlands for my posts on Social Media Contests and Community Engagement Challenge but the curators on the Splinterlands Art department has been more lenient and I am grateful for that. Even so, I'll still be here because the game, without exaggeration, is fun. I really like the challenges as I go up in ranks and I like sharing my discoveries and favorite units in the game.

In this week's post, I'm going to share more about me and my ongoing relationship with Splinterlands, how I started, my favorite card, the evolution of my playstyle and my future projects so stay tuned until the end.

How did you discover Splinterlands?

Let me share how I stumbled upon Splinterlands. I was browsing random videos, searching for fresh Yugioh Master Duel strategies. I think I was searching about how to counter Fiendsmith Snake Eyes decks because that build is really overpowered in Yugioh Master Duel. I also heard that my beloved Monarchs were getting new support so my youtube algorithm is filled with TCG at that time. In one of those suggested videos, Splinterlands caught my eye. At first, I was just drawn to its cool artwork, but as I watched, I discovered it’s an online (TCG) where you can actually earn rewards while playing. Intrigued, I gave it a shot and ended up enjoying it. I honestly forgot which video was it as it's just a random video talking about the game so sorry to whoever that creator was.

I picked up the game’s concept pretty fast since I’m familiar with other TCGs as well like Hearthstone and Pokémon. Splinterlands stands out, although it’s more kind of like Teamfight Tactics (TFT) but in card game form while still sharing some familiar TCG vibes. I remembered that the initial thought of it being NFT turned me off because of all the youtuber NFT scams but after searching in Google, I thought it might be legit so I gave it a try.

What was your first card or most memorable early battle?

This battle was not the first but one of my most memorable fights. Chaos Dragon is strong that can win you games even alone. That combination of Blast, Scattershot and magic attack can really appeal on new players as it got me a lot of wins during that time.

Chaos Dragon's base damage is strong enough that you don't really need him to be high level to be effective. Even without the other abilities, the Blast and Scattershot abilities already applied at level 2 makes him one of the strongest dragons in my opinion. This is something that stuck to me although I learned that he cannot be used to win games all the time especially once you get to higher levels.

How has your strategy evolved since you started?

It struck me as weird that as I get on higher levels, the mana on battles I got started going lower and lower. Before when I was starting, I usually get 99 mana every 5 battles and now, I think I got 99 mana every 20 battles. I don't know why this was or I'm probably just imagining it but this is the reason why I had to change my over reliance with Chaos Dragon.

I stopped relying on strong units that uses high mana but used unit numbers instead. There would be a lot of battles where I chose to use more weaker units than 1-2 strong units and this seems to be stronger in a lot of way especially if the battle mana is not that high.

One example of that battle is something like this battle.

In this one, I can absolutely use Chaos Golem but instead of using 14 mana for 1 unit in 25 mana battle, I those to add more units instead. I won quite easily.

What are your goals in the game now?

I recently got to Gold III but quickly got back to Silver II as I got gold a day or so before the season reset. That sucks but not so much as I know I can get back quickly. My goal for now is to get back to Gold and then possibly, Diamond by the end of the season.

I'm also planning to check how much I can push myself in this game and see more combinations that can be more reliable. I want to get some specific combination that works on specific rules so I get more consistent wins on those rules.

I'll also add one more but this may or may not be related to Splinterlands. I'm working on something right now and will be creating a new channel and posting in youtube as well maybe this week or the next. I hope that if you read this, you can also follow my work in youtube as well in the future. I'll announce it properly once I'm 95% done in that project.
