Is Captain Katie Supposed to be just Rare?!?

You know how some games have that one moment that flips the whole match? Like when your opponent thinks they’re in control, but then one unit gets a buff, and suddenly the tide turns. That moment always feels good, especially when the battle goes as planned and yet no one saw it coming. I've been in a few of those lately, and honestly it’s fun to watch the panic.

Lore

As the wave hit, Daddy was laughing and shouting “ready to fly!?” She was. Katie felt an incredible rush as the ship pointed straight toward the sky, but this wave was considerably bigger than the others.

It engulfed and capsized the ship, and somewhere in the chaos, Katie lost her hold on her father's leg. Katie was one of only three souls on the ship that night who survived; her father was not among them.

Stats

Captain Katie.PNG

Captain Katie is a high-damage backline magic unit with Snipe that gets stronger with every kill thanks to Bloodlust. With fast Speed, good Health, and a Divine Shield to block early attacks, she’s made for snowballing and getting that high magic attack for the later rounds. She works great with certain combos and rules but generally good at all times. Captain Katie's ability can skip all those tanky units so she can pick them off quickly and scale.

Abilities

IconNameDescription
snipe.pngSnipeTagets the frist enemy Unit with Rangd, Maic, or no attack that is not in the first position with Ranged or Magic attacks.
Swiftness.png is a match because Boosts Katie’s Speed and makes her attack first and make sure her attacks hit units with Phase, letting her more consistently pick off backline units for Bloodlust triggers.
Taunt.png is a counter because Taunt redirects her magic snipe away from softer targets, forcing her to attack a tank instead and miss those opportunities for her Bloodlust stack.
Bloodlust.pngBloodlustEvery time this Unit defeats an opponent, it gets +1 to all stats.
Blast.png is a match because Deaths from Blast attacks are considered a kill for Captain Katie if she is the one currently attacking. This increases the chance of her getting stacks and the more Bloodlust stacks she has, the higher her attack would be increasing the damage from Blast as well.
Silence.png is a counter because If an enemy has Silence, her magic attack drops, making it harder to secure kills and trigger Bloodlust.
Divine Shield.pngDivine ShieldThe first time the Unit takes damage it is ignored.
Protect.png is a match because The added armor coming from this ability combined with Divine Shield gives Katie more survivability, especially against melee and range attacks.
Earthquake.png is a counter because Katie lacks Flying or sustain, so she loses health each round. Divine Shield may block the first Earthquake damage but it gets worse after the first hit is blocked.

Good Rules to Consider

IconNameReason
Armored Up.pngArmored UpAll Units have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat.
Armored Up is similar to Protect. She becomes more tanky thanks to bonus armor, and with Divine Shield, she becomes harder to kill. Also, her attacks are magic in nature which means it passes through enemy's armor.
Explosive Weaponry.pngExplosive WeaponryAll units have Blast (deals an additional 50% damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up).
Blast kills can also give Bloodlust stacks, Captain Katie can pick off soft backline enemies and power up fast even without directly landing the final blow.
Ferocity.pngFerocityAll units have Fury (deals double damage if the target has Taunt).
Stops enemies from using Taunt units which is Captain Katie's weakness, letting her Snipe ability hit the intended backline targets and trigger Bloodlust more easily.

Bad Rules to Think Twice

IconNameReason
back to basics.pngBack to BasicsUnits lose all abilities.
Removes all her abilities, making her just a high-damage caster with no defense or scaling.
Fog of War.pngFog of WarUnits lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities.
Snipe gets disabled, forcing Captain Katie to hit the frontline and may take longer for those Bloodlust stacks until you kill the main tank. This removes one of her most powerful ability making her just a power hitter at the end.
Earthquake.pngEarthquakeNon-flying Units take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Captain Katie do not have Flying ability and has no healing, so she gets worn down quickly after Divine Shield breaks. Bloodlust needs time to get stacks and scale and Earthquake doing damage each round is a bad thing for long games.

Link to battle

This was a tough battle. First, the enemies not only have the numbers advantage, they also have the level advantage. They even have a Captain Katie 2 levels ahead of mine. My choice of units and abilities gave me an advantage in this battle resulting in my win. A huge difference also is that their Captain Katie is positiong behind the tank while mine is the last unit. Bloodlust takes time before it becomes strong so always keep it in a position that would keep them safe until it pops up.
