WATER MAGIC ONSLAUGHT

Rule Set

This is a special battle because it was part of a tournament that I entered. Unfortunately, I did not make it far but it was an enlightening experience to see the teams and strategies used by other Splinterlands players. The mana-cap here was 50 which allowed for a lot of very strong monsters. Silence Summoners meant there would be no summoner abilities active in this battle, and Earthquake meant 2 melee damage for all monsters every round -- unless they had the Flying ability.

My Strategy

Since Water Splinter was available I went for a both offensive and defensive water magic team. I had Torhilo with his Void ability as my front-line tank to be the attack sponge but also to dish out heavy attack while reducing enemy magic damage to itself. After Torhilo I put Djinn Oshannus in 2nd since he makes for a good replacement tank with his decent magic damage and health and high speed of 5 which can dodge melee and range. In 3rd position I had Enchanted Pixie with Flying to avoid Earthquake damage, Sea Genie in 4th to also avoid Earthquake damage, Venari Wavesmith in 5th to provide armor for all my monsters with its Protect ability. In last and sixth place, there was Axe Master with his Double Strike to go through armor and put pressure on enemy health.

Opponent's Line-up

Surprisingly, they did not go with a magic water team and instead went with Fire. Their first monster, Molten Ogre was a hefty 10 health melee tank with Demoralize which lower enemy melee. This would've been a lot if I didn't have a team that does 11 damage per round so I wasn't worried. They did have Sand Worm which worried me a little. Thankfully this wasn't a Reverse Speed fight so I could count on not all of its 5 melee attacks landing. In their third position they had Lava Launcher, a powerful card in a melee-only fights but my magic attacks would go straight past that armor. In 4th, they had Pyromancer which was another card that worried as its Blast ability would wear away my Venari armor, plus it's place in the middle of the team meant I wouldn't be able to hit it until Ogre, Worm, and Launcher were defeated. The next great pick of theirs was their 5th position monster, Efreet Elder. His Last Stand ability which ups his stats if he's the only monster left might be trouble but I had two monsters with Void ability which could hopefully defuse that. Their last monster was Elven Defender, which I didn't really understand unless they were worried about Sneak monsters but it looked strange that they had not put any flying monsters or snare monsters in their line-up. Overall, it was my 11 damage vs their 16 damage, my 15 speed vs 12 speed, my 30 health vs their 41 health, my 16 armor vs their 9 armor. I think my speed, armor, and 2 Void abilities give me the upper hand.

At round 2, the enemy Molten Ogre is obliterated but my Torhilo the Frozen has lost half its health. Thankfully, Earthquake is doing a number on both our teams so my Enchanted Pixie and Sea Genie are sitting safe thanks to their Flying abilities.

By round 3, the enemy is down 3 monsters -- Sand Worm, Lava Launcher, and Pyromancer. Torhilo the Frozen dies this round and Djinn Oshannus has finally received some damage but the enemy Efreet Elder is not long for this battle.

At round 4, all that is left of the enemy is Elven Defender. While Torhilo the Frozen is gone and Djinn Oshannus is low on Life, there is nothing Elven Defender can do to turn this battle around -- blast of magic or two axes race to end him before the earthquake.

Since this was a tournament battle, I won no Rating or Dark Energy Crystals.
