All About that Magic Life, Episode 8 - Splinterlands
Life versus Life
This was an interesting ruleset -- no Splinters except Life and no Neutral Splinter monsters. I wondered what kind of team my opponent would make. Their recently played section did not show any fights where they had chosen the Neutral Splinter so I couldn't get a glimpse of what kind of Neutral cards they had. They also chose a lot of melee and range teams which made me suspect they would use a similar Neutral team made of melee and range types. I picked Lorna Shine as my summoner and went for a magic Life Splinter team with Venari Crystalsmith as my backline healer instead of the 3rd magic Life lady I usually go with. I made Shieldbearer my tank because his Taunt ability makes all enemy monsters attack only him until he's defeated so it would protect my magic monsters for a few rounds. In the event I took down the enemy front-line monster, I picked Lunakari Mistress as my 2nd position because of her Oppression ability which does double-damage to non-attack types such as healers or attack-sponges like Gelatinous Cube. Next I picked Djinn Renova because of her Stregthen ability because it raises the Health of ally monsters while she's alive. My opponent's team consisted of Shieldbearer, Divine Healer, Peacebringer, Herbalist, Lone Boatman, and Truthspeaker. Luckily I went with magic to bypass any enemy armor and all my monsters had much higher Health.
In the end, I lost Shieldbearer but Lunakari Mistress and Djinn Renova were able to mow down the enemy line with magic attacks -- especially when Lunakari took down Divine Healer with double damage thanks to Oppress. While Venari Crystalsmith's Speed is only 2, she still did a good job of healing both Shieldbearer and Lunakari Mistress. The last monster my opponent had standing was Truthspeaker which I found funny because I'd specifically picked magic to bypass enemy armor -- Lunakari to kill non-attack types/healers/attack-sponges -- and at the end the only monster left was a non-attack type who gives armor.
I earned 40 Rating and almost 7 Dark Energy Crystals for this battle.

That was well played you were able to dominate the fight thanks to the magic attacks.
Thank you. It's tough to counter Magic sometimes, depending on what cards each player has. In the above battle, since only Life Splinter was available I think my opponent's only option would've been to use Clay Golem's Void ability which reduces magic damage to itself, Crystal Werewolf which reduces all enemy magic damage, along with several healers like Venari Crystalsmith and Divine Healer.
Yeah those two as magic defense would have made it a bit harder but mostly people wont go for magic defence in a pure light battle.
I agree. There's just not enough starter magic monsters in Life to depend on that strategy. I think that set up is just a reaction to seeing that someone does have life magic monsters in their recently-played section in the enemy-found screen. That may soon change though due to the upcoming Chaos Legion release.
