Introduction

It's Monday again. As usual, I will be doing the battle mage secrets challenge. The theme featured this week is Unprotected. In this ruleset, all units do not have armor and can't gain armor. Units with low health will be exposed. In this post, I will give you the tips to play around this ruleset as well as showcase one of the tips I used.

My Strategy & Tips For Unprotected

One big tip for unprotected is to play units that have high base health. An example of this would be Cursed Windeku. Usually tanky units that don't have armor already will have higher base health which is a good choice in this ruleset.

A good strategy to play in this ruleset is to utilize a taunt unit to take away the focus from the dps on your team. With no armor, you may have units that would die easily to opportunity and the taunt unit will be able to defend these units for a few rounds.

Another strategy that can be used is Lily Shieldpaw. You won't have to worry about them attacking the backline as much. This can be paired with an Almo Cambino as a tank with some backline damage and support.

Other than that, I find the two elements that do well for me in this ruleset is the Water and Death elements. Water has units with decent health and a good taunt like Wave Brood. Death has great units like Cursed Windeku and Silent Shavi with amazing stats without the armor.

The Battle

I played this battle on my own account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle was from my last brawl. It's wild diamond and I fought Molins from Sabaoth. I had home advantage so in anycase of a tie I would be victorious. Not only that but my guild bans Immortalis and Quora so I knew for a fact that he wouldn't be able to play these cards. The rulesets for this battle was Noxious Fumes, Unprotected and Are You Not Entertained?. This battle had a 45 mana cap with only death element unavailable.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Lux Vega - Lux Vega was my summoner of choice. I didn't choose it for the armor but more for the speed and health buff.

First Position, Uriel The Purifier - Uriel is a solid frontline with high base health which is something I recommended before. It also has flying which can help dodge attacks and with the heal it can sustain the fight.

Second Position, Sola Ranjell - This is my legendary gold foil gladius card. Anyways the point of this was to cleanse my Uriel so it won't take any poison damage.

Third Position, Djinn Renova - Djinn Renova was my DPS and also had the strengthen buff which was helpful in this kind of ruleset since there was no armor and noxious fumes. The triage would help with the poison damage on the backline.

Fourth Position, Adelade Brightwing - Adelade was chosen because it has immune. This makes this card super good in this ruleset since it won't take any of the noxious fumes damage. It also provides a nice speed boost for the team as well as being able to resurrect one unit and help it remove the poison.

Fifth Position, Dr Blight - Dr Blight is a god tier card. This card has weaken which helps lower the health of all enemy units which is huge in Noxious fumes. It also has scavenge to survive the noxious fumes damage. It has camouflage so I didn't need to worry to much about it getting attacked unless the opponent used Chaos Dragon.

Sixth Position, Shieldbearer - As I said in the tips, it's a great strategy to use a taunt to protect the other units. I didn't have enough mana for Iziar and this was the best choice available. Even though this unit was level 1, I think it was still worth playing with the taunt.

Analysis of The Battle

My lineup played even better than I imagined. The tank heal and the self heal kept my Uriel alive and it never died. My Shieldbearer did amazing by tanking almost 2 rounds of attacks. It was level 1 super under leveled card but you can see how strong taunt is in this type of ruleset.

I'm quite unsure why my opponent played Venari Wavesmith. Maybe they made a blunder and forgot that there was an unprotected ruleset. I also thought the Swamp Spitter was a blunder since there was no armor to repair. It's either that or he was just trying to flex on me by playing this bad lineup. My opponent did have an interesting strategy of Geltainous Cube in the backline to try to win by stalling. It didn't work out though because my team was able to survive and have enough DPS to take it out.

Do I Like Unprotected Ruleset?

To be frank, I'm not a fan of this ruleset. I believe I tend to lose more playing this ruleset so that is one of the reasons why. In addition to that, this ruleset has many different strategies and it's like playing rock, paper, scissors. You have to guess the lineup the opponent is using to win.
