Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Teach & Triumph!

I’ve been playing Splinterlands long enough to know that the difference between average earnings and top-tier SPS and Glint earnings isn’t just about how many battles you play - it’s about when you play them, where you play them, and how you plan your season. Today, I want to share my personal approach to squeezing every last drop of value from the season, using real data and a few tried-and-tested tricks.

The First Days of the Season: The Golden Window

If there’s one piece of advice you take from me, it’s this: front-load your effort at the start of the season. I buy as much Energy as I can using Glint in the first few days. Why? Because when you start the season, you’re placed in a lower league than where you finished, meaning the Energy cost is lower.

It’s like farming in fertile soil - you can rack up a ton of wins at a fraction of the energy cost you’ll see later on. The first two days are absolute gold mines for SPS earnings, especially in Wild and Survival modes.

If you look at last season’s data, day one was the single highest SPS-earning day in Wild and Survival formats. Day two was also strong, and days four and five gave above-average Wild returns. Interestingly, three days before season end also had a spike.

Timing Chest Openings

One mistake I see a lot of players make is rushing to open chests early in the season. Personally, I save my chest openings for the second half of the season -ideally when my deck is operating at a higher league level. When you open chests later in the season you use the extra energy from the chests at a higher league level, so delaying can mean better SPS and more Glint.

Also, late-season battles tend to be slightly easier if you’ve been patient with your pushes, since you can take advantage of matchmaking shifts as other players with weaker decks move up.

Switching Between Formats for an Edge

Here’s where things get interesting: If you’ve got a decent deck for both Modern and Wild, don’t be afraid to switch between them mid-season.

Modern tends to get tougher faster because of concentrated high-level competition. Sometimes I’ll push up in Modern until the matches get hard, then switch over to Wild for a while. Wild still has its own top-tier competition, but because of the card pool diversity and matchmaking spread, you can sometimes enjoy a higher win rate there - especially if you’ve got older cards that shine in Wild format.

Once things calm down in Modern (usually when lower-ranked players climb into your range), I’ll hop back in. This leapfrogging keeps my win rate high, and with it, my SPS and Glint earnings.

Yes, unlocking Wild costs 2000 DEC, but if you have a Diamond-level Wild deck and enough SPS staked, it pays for itself easily over a season in extra rewards.

A Few Extra Tips That Have Worked for Me

  • Track Your Daily Earnings: Use a chart like the one from last season to identify patterns. This way, you can predict which days might be worth a heavy push
  • Leverage Survival Mode Early: The payouts on day one for Survival can be massive. Even if you don’t usually play it, consider buying in early.
  • Energy Management: Never let your energy cap out unused. These full energy times can cost you in SPS over a season.
  • Know When to Rest: If matchmaking is brutal one day, don’t waste your energy fighting uphill battles. Switch formats or wait for a softer pool of opponents.

My Closing Thought

Splinterlands isn’t just about battling - it’s about strategy, timing, and reading the ebb and flow of the season. By front-loading battles, smartly timing chest openings, switching formats strategically, and watching the data, I’ve been able to consistently pull in higher SPS earnings than when I just played casually.

Hopefully, these tips help you not just play, but play it smart.
