Maybe Hive Should Get Listed on Base: Aerodrome Finance
Today Bitcoin had a small dip to $112k and Hive is trading at 18 cents! Last time we were at this price level for Hive was last October when Bitcoin was trading at around $60k or about half the price that it is today.
So Bitcoin basically doubled and we are flat. That is quite a bit of underperformance for Hive. And that is not just the most boring crypto, Etherium is trading today at $4180 while it was at $2200 last October, so it also almost doubled.
Clearly there is too much sell pressure on Hive. Maybe Hive stakers should look at ways to reduce that pressure. When I think of where that sell pressure might be coming from the first thing that comes to mind is the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF). The biggest expense item for DHF is the Value Plan.
The Value Plan is a large basket that includes a number of different projects in it. Maybe the Value Plan should be un-voted and each of the projects in it should submit a DHF proposal and Hive stakeholders can vote on each project separately and decide which projects should be funded and which might not be worth the funds that they require at this time. And maybe there are other things that Hive needs that funds can be allocated to that would not result in as much inflation.
For example Hive really needs a better onramp for American investors. Right now it is really inconvenient to get fiat into Hive in United States. Hive is not listed on any centralized exchanges so in order to buy Hive one would have to transfer money from the bank to Coinbase then pay high fees to buy ETH, LTC or BTC on Coinbase. Then pay fees to transfer from Coinbase to Metamask then pay fees to transfer from Metamask to Hive-engine.
This is a long and complicated process for most new crypto investors and it cost more than it should. Recently Splinterlands came up with a great idea for a fiat on-ramp into SPS token. SPS token got basically listed on Base blockchain, which is a main blockchain for Coinbase.
They also built a bridge to Base so that you simply buy SPS for USDC in your Base wallet and can transfer it straight into the game from your Base wallet. Simple and cheap way to acquire SPS tokens.
Splinterlands did it by establishing a liquidity pool on Aerodrome Finance AERO, which is the largest Decentralized Exchange on Base blockchain that Coinbase is invested in and is making it the Exchange that all Coinbase users will be using soon to buy any coins on Base. Right now only five percent of Coinbase users have access to this, but soon they will roll it out to all Coinbase users and they stated that they want to make it a completely seamless experience so listing on Coinbase's blockchain will basically become as good as listing on Coinbase.
Splinterlands did run into a problem listing SPS token on Aerodrome Finance. This Decentralized Exchange does require you to give them enough business so that they can make some money on the small fee that they charge.
That means that your token has to have at least a million dollars in trading volume per day. SPS is around sixty thousand dollars in daily volume on all exchanges. It is simply too small. Hive doesn't have this problem. So Hive can get officially listed by token name on Aerodrome Finance and not worry about having to provide a swap link or have users type in contract address for the token.
It would be cool to be able to get USDC for free on Coinbase and simply buy Hive right there then use a bridge to transfer Hive and stake it deposit it into HBD savings. That would provide a great on-boarding experience into Hive for United States based users.

I did not not know about the ease of getting SPS on Base so thanks for that info!
People can use hive-engine to go from SPS to HIVE at https://hive-engine.com/trade/SPS I guess, right? Then maybe trade for $SURGE! My fave token lately :D
Nice number, anything over 10K is awesome!

It is a fairly new development and if you try to do that make sure that you use the official link from the Splinterlands user interface from their Liquidity Pool page. There are other tokens on Base that come up when you search for SPS or Splinterlands and they are not the real thing. So you need to search by contract number or use this link:
https://aerodrome.finance/swap?from=0x833589fcd6edb6e08f4c7c32d4f71b54bda02913&to=0x578661e9a09eee6b2cd97d4ded1ccbae7b8516b9&chain0=8453&chain1=8453
That is basically swapping from first contract which is USDC on Base and Second Contract is SPS on Base: 0x578661e9a09eee6b2cd97d4ded1ccbae7b8516b9
Thanks very much for the further info! Very helpful. :)
Yeah there should be easier ways to get on hive, even though you can buy hive from binance and transfer them here, it's not that hard in the end... Value plan, I wonder after all that years of money spent what it achieved? How many people onboarded? Is it worth all that money?
I live in USA and at least for Washington state you cannot buy Hive on Binance, in fact I get this:

Wow that's quite bad
I don't think it as simple as a coin just being added to a crypto platform i am sure there is cost and other obstacles in the way.
Personally i just use Coinnase it is easy to transfer tokens to Hive.
I transfer litecoin to hive and swap it for whatever i want on Hive.
It takes very little time and is not complicated.
Onboarding people is not a problem getting them to do anything and stay is the trick 🤣
Have the best day @seattlea 😎

I think the problem is HIVE still doesn't have any single authority that they can hold accountable. With SPS they can at least point to Splinterlands. It would be awesome to see HIVE on another exchange though. Especially something as big as BASE.
Yeah, you might be right about a single authority. Splinterlands doesn't just have the Splinterlands company it has Splinterlands DAO as well that did a lot of the work on this. Other than that there could be some technicalities with the Mint Function Renouncement that Aerodrome / Velodrome want from projects.
And a little marketing would add wonders to that.
That is for sure!
Great post @seattlea! You've nailed the frustration with Hive's underperformance compared to BTC and ETH
Well, maybe Hive community can change some things to help Hive perform better...
I agree...
Thank you!
Right said, Hive can benefit greatly if onboarding is easy for American investors. Using coinbase's base blockchain is a smart idea.
I hope so, and there is example from Splinterlands and clayboyn who commented on this post as well :)
Wouldn't that be something...
The more Hive ecosystem is interconnected to the rest of crypto the better...
Thank you for letting us know.
Your analysis of Hive’s performance is very insightful. Funding DHF projects individually rather than through the Value Plan could definitely bring more transparency and efficiency.
Creating an easier on-ramp for American users is also critical. Allowing direct USDC-to-Hive purchases would make onboarding much smoother and could accelerate Hive’s growth.
**** In your opinion, which should Hive prioritize first to support its value — smarter fund management or better on-ramp solutions?
I would say short term smarter fund management will yield immediate results and will stop the bleeding, but long term better on-ramp solutions will potentially be a game changer.
You are absolutely right. This is a great point. Short-term fund discipline is vital for survival, but without strong on-ramp solutions we’ll keep hitting the same ceiling. Thank You so much for reading my post.
You are welcome :)
Thank you so much for your valuable comments...
📉 Very interesting analysis, I liked how you presented the comparison and possible solutions to improve Hive’s situation. Hopefully, an easier onboarding through platforms like Coinbase can happen soon — it would be a huge step forward. 🚀
Agreed.
