Hello there! @saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday!

Playing Splinterlands can take some learning curves before a new player begins to understand the game and with the lack of tutorials, players may feel overwhelmed by the complexity of the game. As a result, this can lead to new players to quickly quit the game as they get frustrated for losing their battles. Thankfully, the game has finally introduced the phase 1 of its campaign mode, which will help new players to get started in the game by a series of tutorials. Currently, the first phase has the book 1 that will teach the games basics and will give a beginners beginner's deck as well as some glint with the completion of the book to ensure that after going through the campaign, players will be able to be ready to play ranked battle.

And so, for this weeks Community Engagement Challenge, let us unpack what the Campaign mode has for new players.

Book 1: Waur Medge Academy

Book 1: Waur Medge Academy is the phase 1 of the Campaign mode and is composed of a series of PVE tutorial that teaches new players about the game's basic mechanics. Also, by completing every chapters of the game, players will receive cards that they can use in ranked battles. This is huge because by providing a step-by-step guides that introduces players to the game's mechanics, allowing them to slowly adapt into the game and reduce the likelihood of them quickly quitting the game.

To start playing the Campaign, you can either click Campaign in the Play dropdown menu or in the Play menu page.

In the campaign page, click on the Book 1: Waur Medge Academy to start your journey as a fledging Battle Mage. Well, regardless, it was the only book that you can access in the Phase 1 of the mode but other books that will teach more of the game's mechanics are in the works.

All in all, the book 1 of the campaign mode has a total of 11 chapters by which upon completion, players will receive cards and glint. Take note that the rest of the chapters will not unlock unless you complete the available chapter. So players can take their time and gradually learn the game.

After completing each of the chapters, they will be marked as completed and that the player has acquired the card rewards called the "Foundation Set" which contains 5 Archons and 33 card Units. Players can check their Foundation cards by using the foundation filter in the Card collection page.

Foundation Archons

Fire Units

Fire units of the foundation set has a total of 7 cards, 4 of which are melee units while 2 are range units and the last one has not attack.

image.png

Water Units

The water splinter only has 5 cards which contains 2 melee, 2 range and 1 magic unit.

image.png

Earth Units

Meanwhile, Earth team has 3 melee, 2 range and 1 magic unit for a total of 6 cards.

image.png

Light Units

Same with Water, Life also has 5 cards by which 3 of them are melee units while there is 1 range and another card with no attack.

image.png

Death Units

Death Splinter also has 5 cards by which 3 units are melee while the other 2 was a range and a non-damage unit.

image.png

Neutral Units

Finally, for the neutral unit, there are 3 melee, 1 range and 1 non-damage unit. Foundation set does not include any dragon cards.

Most of the foundation cards has huge mana cost compared to their stats so they are not that competitive compared to the modern cards and as of the moment, this cards are not upgradeable but soon will have an option to be tradeable and purchasable in packs. Foundation cards also does not contribute to collection power nor provide production value on land. Although they will be tradeable soon, foundation cards will not be burnable to DEC too so as not to add with the DEC inflation.

Closing

Splinterlands finally having a campaign mode is a huge improvement to the game and will help to teach the game to the new players. This is definitely a huge step for helping the game to reach more players. The cards that were given in the campaign mode was not that strong but the goal is not to give new players free cards that are fully competitive but just to be able for them to participate in the game and eventually invest to the game to become more competitive.

Thank you and see you on the next post!
