@pepetoken may have also assumed that you are comfortable using Wine on your (Arch) Linux installation. πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ˜†πŸΈ

Pehaps so, though WINE can be a finicky bird. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

If @pepetoken's frogkottekt.exe Windows program is simple enough, then Linux's Wine can run it at up to 100% efficiency (or even faster than when run natively on Windows). πŸ€”πŸΈπŸ˜ŽπŸ˜

Yes, for simple applications, that's true. It's when applications begin making calls to different parts of the OS that things can get dicey. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Yes, especially when the Windows executable wants to make changes inside the system32 folder. πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ˜†πŸ˜…

Yep, that sort of thing is one of the exceedingly numerous reasons that I choose Linux over Windows any day. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

I wonder how often you use AppImages on Linux (compared to native Linux apps). πŸ€”πŸ€“πŸ˜

The only AppImages that I use are for the Qortal UIs. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

I assume that as #Qortal gets more developed, they would get closer to having a native app equivalent for every AppImage they have released. πŸ€”πŸ˜ŽπŸ€“πŸ˜

They do have native apps for the UIs, at least for Debian/ubuntu/Mint-based distros. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Do you mean that #Qortal has native apps for every (official) user interface on many Linux distros, but not (yet) for Arch Linux? πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ˜…

Correct, they focus on what most people use, which are Debian/Ubuntu/Mint-based distros. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Then that means you don't have much choice but to use #Qortal's AppImages for now on Arch Linux (or compile the user interfaces from source). πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ˜…

That's not actually true, since if I really wanted to install the DEB file, I have a way to do that too. Honestly the AppImage makes updating very easy and quick. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Do you mean that downloading a standalone AppImage for every update of a particular user interface for #Qortal is more efficient for you (in terms of convenience and speed) compared to installing the DEB file and updating it using the terminal? πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ€“πŸ˜…

The UIs (except for testing versions), like the core, auto-update, so it pretty much takes care of itself. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

Do you mean that the AppImages for your #Qortal node (on your laptop) also auto-update? πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ€“

The UI auto-updates the APPIMAGE. 😁 πŸ™ πŸ’š ✨ πŸ€™

That's good, unless the AppImage is very big because the entire AppImage file needs to be downloaded again regardless of how many bytes of data were actually changed. πŸ€―πŸ€“

Imagine the dev team of the AppImage which is more than 1 gigabyte needing to release a hotfix to a major problem to its app, only to require its users to redownload the entire AppImage again! πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ€―πŸ˜†πŸ˜…
