Personal Growth: A Journey Of Self-discovery Through Hive

I have been reading a lot about personal growth and self-discovery. In a bid to change my life, I have started new things with the hope that things might turn out differently. My journey in life has been predictable. I could always tell that bad things happen to me at the peak of good things. It might sound confusing to you, but all I'm trying to point out is that my life's journey feels scripted to me.

I'm trying to do things a lot differently to break that jinx. I'm so glad that I have Hive to always share my thoughts and life stories. I didn't even know this community existed till I wanted to write this. In all honesty, Hive rocks!

The worse thing that can ever happen to me already happened. Losing my mom was something that broke me. Not just financially, but mentally. I lost my drive, and I've been unwilling to continue my life, and as a result, I've been paying dearly for it.

I stay alone, far from my father. I have to take care of myself now. I didn't realize that until I fell sick. It was so bad that I couldn't help myself. It took 3-4 days for me to recover.

I have to stop being lazy and start living my life

This is what prompted me to start researching self-discovery. How can I grow? What are the steps I can take?

I found some tips online that were written by Jari Roomer. I've started to employ these tips, however, I'm relating my self-discovery journey to Hive.

Tip 1 - Focus On A Few Topics — Not Everything At Once

In this tip, he advised that one should focus on one thing at a time. It could be my finances first before my health and productivity.

In my case, I've chosen to start with my productivity. I have drawn a timetable for how I want to operate my life. I want to be active on Hive again. I'm no longer consistent in what I do. Sometimes, I get surprised when I receive support on my posts because I'm not the same energetic person I used to be. Laziness and procrastination have taken over. In this journey, I want to get back to hosting interviews on the blockchain, Hosting weekend engagements for Nigerians, Playing and being active in the chess community, learning and sharing my Spanish progress, e.t.c.

I have all this listed in my productivity timetable and I wish to start them as soon as possible.

  • I'm also handling my finances alongside being productive. I would resume my previous job as a chess coach.

That way I would not rely on my Hive payouts anymore and it would give room for me to grow my portfolio for future purposes.

  • I also need to take care of my health. I did surgery on my hand two years ago. I surgically removed a ganglion cyst. Recently, I have been having pains around my wrist area, I guess it's about to form somewhere around there again.

Tip 2: Get A Mentor

Find at least one person (whether in real life, online, living, or dead) that has achieved what you want to achieve. It could be a colleague, author, influencer, or (paid) coach. Study their moves, their material, and their words — then make it your own by giving it your unique twist.

I have a hard time picking a mentor. It's really hard for me. I have one person I look up to which is my late mom. She was a good woman who worked so hard and love children. I would love to be as hardworking as she was. She also left me with a lot of quotes and instructions. I hope to abide by them.

Tip 3: Don’t Go At It Alone

Jari advises me to look for people that can inspire me to keep up with my self-improvement journey. I see a lot on Hive every day. People who are serious about developing themselves. The thing about Hive I didn't realize early is that people live their truth here. Many tell their day-to-day life. I have seen many inspiring stories on Hive. I just have to keep exploring and finding more friends on the way.

Tip 4: Set Goals (But Not Too Many)

I agreed with this immediately I saw it because I understand the importance of goals. Growing on hive was not so difficult for me because I had goals and worked with them.

I have decided to set goals in different aspects. I would have my Hive goals which I would write about separately, and also my life goals for the rest Of the year. I have chosen that time frame so I can quickly judge my progress.

Tip 5: Realize It’s Not Going To Be Smooth

Well, I know this. Infact I feel this is the most important tip I need to look at every morning when I wake up because these days I easily get distracted and frustrated. I really don't how to tackle that part. Most times when frustrations set in, I turn off my pc and my mobile phone and quickly find my pillow. I sleep for as long as I can. I starve myself on purpose too so I can feel pain.

I just hope writing this helps because I know it won't be smooth. This is not first time I'm embarking on this journey. Many times, I stop even before it begins.

In Conclusion...

I have some few friends on Hive I talk to or rather lean on for words of encouragement. Hive has been a blessing to me. I wonder how I would have gone through thus phase without the people on this chain.

I'm trying to re discover myself here, I hope I achieve that.

Please if you were able to read this and understand, kindly share your thoughts as they would definitely help In my journey

Man, I can understand. People that haven’t gone through this can not even fathom what this means. I can tell you as someone who lost their mother at a very early age that it gets better. Just make sure you live your best life, that’s what she would’ve wanted.

Focus On A Few Topics — Not Everything At Once.

Yes, compartmentalizing and prioritizing one thing at a time is a good start. Attempting to handle everything at once will overwhelm you.

You are lucky though cuz you seem to be on the right track thanks to the Jari guy.
I can't imagine what loosing your mum feels like, I'm so sorry man. She sounds like a wise human so sticking to her teachings sounds great.
Keep doing what you already do, hopefully soon you'll give an update on more tips you picked up on your journey to self discovery. Good luck ❣️
