The film is about a 16-year-old teenager named Hodaka Morishima, who runs away from his village home and comes to Tokyo. Tokyo is experiencing unusually incessant rainfall. Hodaka struggles alone and in poverty in the city. One day, he meets an orphan girl named Hina Amano, who has a mysterious power - she can pray and clear the sky for a short time and bring sunshine. Hodaka and Hina, along with Hina's younger brother Nagi, use this power to start a small business where they bring sunshine to people for money. Their business is very successful, but Hina's power comes at a high price. Hina's body gradually becomes transparent in order to maintain the balance of the weather, which means she has to sacrifice herself for nature.
