Using Playdough to Design the African Map + Identifying Conflict Hot Spots in Africa in our Homeschool
Making playdough yourself is very exciting and interesting. Children love to learn using symbols and practical. Africa is one of the continent that has experienced too many conflicts, some from independence while others during coup d'etat that removed civilian governments. Since we are Africans, I decided to introduce geography in our homeschool. Follow us as we go step by step in making our playdough. Greetings from @salvadornkpara.
Items Needed for The Map
- Cardboard
- pencil or pen for drawing
- poster color
- playdough
Items used in Making our Playdough
- 1 Cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- Food colors
- water
How to Make a Salt Playdough
Mix the flour with the salt and add water then stire together with it forms a march.
Get the cardboard and draw the map. I used a free hand sketch to draw the map. The map contains countries but no name was identified but the boundaries were shown.
Geography is very important to every society and understanding the areas of conflict can help travelers and investors. The African continent is a blessed one, it has all the natural resources that'll help it grow both industrially and infrastructurally. Looking at the map, you'll see areas painted with red poster colors, they're known as hot conflict spots. These areas include the Horn of Africa: Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia. The Horn of Africa is known for constant conflict and internal wars. Nigeria, Sudan, Cameroon, Niger, Mali.
It's interesting to see my son enjoying using the playdough to play and place them on the map.
This is pretty awesome here! I love it. Playdough is an important thing for kids to use and it's great that you used it to make some important geography. Great job with it!
Thank you very much. We need to do anything that'll make the kids concentrate and become better than they were. Thanks once again
There are a lot of countries in Africa, looking at that map. Do you know many there are?
It's sad there is so much conflict.
There 54 countries actually in Africa and we just considered the hot conflict spots. It's really so unfortunate that there are somany conflicts in the continent, some are due to military coup d'etat, Terrorists rebel groups, and political thuggery. Thanks.
Highly educative :D
Thank you
I love your imagination, this is the first time that I have seen someone made a map using playdough.
Thank you my friend
You're welcome (^_^)
I love your activity so much! You gave me an idea to make a Christmas Tree out of playdough! Or maybe a star or something!
Thanks for the compliment.
