The Unpredictable Retaliation: This Card Hides a Deadly Move
Hello, true Splinterlands warriors!
This time, I want to share one of the most thrilling battles I’ve experienced in the Battle of the Forgotten Cards! challenge. This week’s theme is perfect: underrated cards that people often underestimate but secretly have sharp fangs. My mind immediately jumped to one name: Drybone Barbarian. Maybe not everyone gives him a second glance, but in the right hands… he can become the opponent’s nightmare, man!
Here’s the thing: I think a lot of common cards in Splinterlands have hidden potential that gets overlooked. Especially at lower levels, they might seem average. But once you understand their mechanics, learn how to position them correctly, and pair them with the right support team, suddenly that card can be the difference between a crushing victory or sweating bullets.
And here’s where I introduce our hero: Drybone Barbarian from the Life splinter. At first glance, he looks like a basic tank. But his secret weapon is the Retaliate skill, which unlocks once you upgrade him to level 5. This is where the fun begins. I suspect many players aren’t patient enough to upgrade this bony skeleton, since his early performance isn’t exactly “impactful.” That’s why he’s underrated. But once he hits level 5? Oh boy, don’t mess with him!
The combination of Retaliate and his Enrage skill at higher levels turns him into a sleeping lion that suddenly goes berserk. When attacked, there’s a 50% chance he’ll instantly counter with a nasty melee strike. And when he takes damage, his attack stats skyrocket thanks to Enrage. But hey, it’s 50%—sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not. There are moments where I’m just giggling to myself, “Bro, why’d you just stand there?!”
Okay, let’s dive into the battle I mentioned. This is the epic moment I want to share with you all.
Battle Strategy: The Raging Skeleton’s Masterstroke
In this battle, I placed Drybone Barbarian as my main tank upfront. My goal was simple: let him soak up enemy attacks while hoping his Retaliate would surprise the opponent. But turns out, my opponent wasn’t slacking either. They used Forgotten One in their frontline, which… also has Retaliate! Whoa, this was about to become a counterattack duel that’d leave everyone shaking their heads.
The battle was intense. Round after round, Forgotten One and Drybone Barbarian traded blows. But there was one critical moment: my Drybone Barbarian got hit by Forgotten One’s Retaliate first, but luckily the damage wasn’t too bad. The climax came when Drybone Barbarian finally triggered his Retaliate and sent the opponent’s Radiated Brute straight to the graveyard. One hit, instant KO!
Sadly, after that moment of glory, our Drybone Barbarian also bit the dust. Yeah, he’s like a suicide bomb—deals massive damage, then bows out elegantly. But don’t get it twisted: his contribution was crucial in breaking the enemy’s formation.
Thankfully, I still had a solid backup squad. Olivia of the Brook provided buffs, Djinn Renova kept healing, Thanalorian Archer sniped from afar, Uraeus specialized in sneak attacks, and the battle MVP, Captain Katie, who grew fiercer with every enemy defeated. The opponent’s team was tough, but their formation slowly crumbled.

The Surprise Factor: When the Counterattack Becomes the Game-Changer
I think my opponent was genuinely shocked to see Drybone Barbarian as my main tank. Most players would go for mainstream Life tanks like Pelacor Conjurer or Shieldbearer. But that’s the beauty of the strategy: use a card the enemy thinks is “useless,” then make it work overtime to dismantle their frontline.
The moment Radiated Brute got obliterated by Drybone Barbarian’s Retaliate totally threw the opponent off balance. They were probably thinking, “Wait, how did I lose to a Drybone?!”
Conclusion: The Underestimated Monster You Should Never Sleep On
This battle taught me one thing: underrated cards like Drybone Barbarian can be deadly weapons if used right. Retaliate is a gamble, but that’s what makes it thrilling. Plus, once he’s level 5 or higher, his damage output is no joke.
So for those who love experimenting, give Drybone Barbarian a shot. Who knows? You might just leave your opponents speechless when he goes berserk in the arena.
See you in the next battle, Splinterlands warriors! Don’t forget to upgrade your cards… that forgotten card might just be your key to victory!

Drybone Barbarian can be such a dangerous card with its Enrage ability. Especially in matchups with no armor.
