My Favorite Death Element Combo: Winning Through Consistent Healing

Hey there, Splinterlands warriors!

Welcome back to another Social Media Challenge! As usual, I’m excited to share a quick story about one of my favorite combos that recently helped me clutch a tough match.

This week’s challenge theme is right on point: Power Plays – Your Favorite Card Combos.

Now, when we talk about combos in Splinterlands, the possibilities are endless. You’ve got monsters that snipe, monsters that poison, monsters that love to hit the backline or target the weakest enemies—it’s a sandbox of strategies that can be tailored to any ruleset. And today, I want to highlight a Death element combo that has saved my life (and my rank) more times than I can count.

I often use this combo especially when the ruleset favors magic attacks or limits melee usage. The moment I see What Doesn’t Kill You, Keep Your Distance, or Close Range, I immediately go, “Alright, time for Death magic.”

Here’s the combo:

1. Spirit Hoarder + Arachne Weaver

This is a healing duo many players overlook.

  • Spirit Hoarder comes with Triage, healing your backline monsters.
  • Arachne Weaver, although primarily known for offense, has Corrupted Healing, allowing her to restore HP in ways most healers don’t.

Together, they form a healing engine, especially useful when the enemy tries to sneak-attack your backline. These two keep the team alive when things start falling apart.

2. Venari Bonesmith + Revealer

A nasty little combo of poison and stun—frustrating for your opponent, fantastic for you.

  • Venari Bonesmith has Poison, slowly eating away enemy HP even after his turn ends.
  • Revealer brings Stun, disabling an enemy monster and giving your team breathing room.

One disrupts, the other damages over time. Perfect synergy.

The match I want to share happened in Modern format, which no longer allows Chaos Legion cards. But this combo still thrives thanks to its strong core mechanics.

Here were the rulesets:

  • What Doesn’t Kill You – Monsters gain bonus attack when not at full HP.
  • Keep Your Distance – No melee monsters allowed.
  • Close Range – Ranged monsters can attack from the front.

Yup, a total green light for magic strategy.

I picked Thaddius Brood as my summoner—he reduces enemy magic damage and max HP, which is perfect against magic-heavy lineups.

My Team Lineup:

  1. Chaos Animator – Frontline tank with Void to reduce magic damage.
  2. Dark Arborist – Magic attacker + Magic Reflect, punishing enemy casters.
  3. Venari Bonesmith – Steady poison dealer.
  4. Revealer – The stun specialist.
  5. Arachne Weaver – Offensive support + Corrupted Healing.
  6. Spirit Hoarder – The unsung healer at the back.

The enemy opened aggressively. But thanks to Chaos Animator and his Void ability, my frontline absorbed most of the hits. Even when my tank got poisoned by the enemy’s own Venari Bonesmith, Spirit Hoarder and Arachne Weaver jumped in with healing support.

Their tank was also Chaos Animator, which made things tricky. But I had the secret weapon: Stun + Poison. My Revealer landed a stun at the perfect moment, and Bonesmith’s poison did the rest, eating through their HP while their monster was stuck.

When their team started attacking Dark Arborist, the damage bounced right back thanks to Magic Reflect. Ouch.

Their biggest threat was the combo of Riftwing (with Scavenger) and their own Bonesmith. Riftwing’s HP kept climbing as monsters died, but again—consistent healing kept my team alive. Even when my Bonesmith was down to a sliver of HP, healing brought him back just enough to stay on the board and deliver more poison.

By the final round, I won—not just because of raw damage, but because my strategy and synergy held strong.

💡 Lessons & Tips if You Want to Try This Strategy

If you’re into tactical plays instead of brute force, this combo might be your new favorite. A few quick tips:

  • Watch the ruleset. If you see Keep Your Distance or Broken Arrows, that’s your cue to bring in magic attackers.
  • Don’t underestimate healing. Spirit Hoarder and Arachne Weaver often become clutch players in drawn-out fights.
  • Poison slowly drains the enemy. Bonesmith won’t nuke enemies, but he’ll drive them crazy.
  • Stun changes everything. A well-timed stun from Revealer can swing a round in your favor.

At the end of the day, it's not just about winning—it’s about understanding each monster’s role in your team. Know when to heal, when to poison, and when to hold the line, and you’ll survive even the toughest matchups.

Never underestimate the power of a “slow but steady” combo. Sometimes the scariest damage is the kind that creeps in round by round. 😉

See you again on the battlefield, and may this combo help you climb the ranks too.
Happy battling, fellow Splinterlanders! ⚔️💀
