Mastering the Blast Ruleset with Stun Strategies
How’s it going, fellow Splinterlands warriors (and maybe rivals in the arena)? Today, I want to share an exciting battle experience as part of the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Favorite Strategies. Let’s dive into a strategy I rely on when facing the Blast ruleset—a game mechanic that often brings unexpected twists and intense moments to every match.
Strategy to Counter Blast
The Blast ruleset has one defining feature: the primary attack from the enemy causes explosions that damage adjacent monsters. This becomes especially dangerous when opponents bring monsters with high damage output, particularly magic attacks, which bypass armor entirely. If you’re not careful with your formation, the results can be devastating.
But fear not, there’s a solution! Here’s the strategy I often use to handle Blast:
- Prevent the enemy from attacking. Yes, the best way to avoid getting hurt is to stop them from attacking in the first place!
- Strike first with high-speed monsters. Often, whoever attacks first has a significant advantage in determining the battle's outcome.
- Rely on monsters with health regeneration abilities. This helps mitigate the explosion damage affecting monsters in the second or third position. Personally, I love using Xenith Monk for this role.
- Utilize healers. Placing a monster that can restore health can turn the tide, especially in longer matches.
The Decisive Battle
One of the most intense battles I’ve faced recently involved the Blast ruleset, along with Heavy Hitter and Even Stevens. The challenge was further amplified by a 13-mana cap, making team-building a tricky puzzle.
My Opponent’s Choices:
The enemy went with an aggressive approach, deploying the legendary Harbinger of Chaos from the Life element. With its powerful magic attack and Blast effect, this choice seemed almost unbeatable. To further strengthen their defense, they added 0-mana monsters to guard against sneak attacks in the front and rear.
My Strategic Picks:
I focused on utilizing the Heavy Hitter ruleset, which grants bonus damage when a monster is stunned. My lineup:
- Pelacor Conjurer as the main tank. This monster’s high health allowed it to absorb large hits and explosions.
- Twilight Basilisk in the second position. This was the keystone of my strategy, leveraging its Reach ability and Stun effect to disrupt the enemy's attacks.
- Naga Assassin in the backline. Its high speed ensured it could strike first and add pressure to the opponent.
The Nail-Biting Moments
As the battle began, Twilight Basilisk landed a hit on Harbinger of Chaos, causing a stun. This immobilized the Harbinger on its next turn and activated the Heavy Hitter ruleset, dealing additional damage. Following up, Naga Assassin struck with a swift blow, while Pelacor Conjurer dodged incoming attacks, effectively dismantling the Harbinger faster than expected.
Had the Harbinger managed to attack, the result could have been disastrous. Its 3-point magic attack combined with the Blast effect would have dealt significant damage to my entire team. Fortunately, my stun-focused strategy neutralized this threat entirely.
Lessons and Takeaways
From this battle, I learned that even when options are limited, creative strategies can completely change the outcome. Here are a few takeaways:
- Leverage additional rulesets. Heavy Hitter can be a game-changer when paired with stun effects. Don’t underestimate the synergy between these mechanics!
- Optimize mana efficiency. In low mana cap scenarios, monsters with crucial abilities like stun or reach are invaluable.
- Speed is key. Attacking first doesn’t just deal damage; it also minimizes risks and disrupts the opponent’s plans.
This match proved that sometimes, simple tactics like stopping your enemy from attacking can secure a decisive victory. So, the next time you face the Blast ruleset, don’t panic! Take control of the battlefield, execute your strategy, and watch how a small adjustment can lead to a big win.
