Exploring the Campaign Mode Experience in Splinterlands!
Hello Archons of Splinterlands!
Welcome back to another weekly Splinterlands challenge.
This week’s challenge is all about the newly released Campaign Mode—and I must say, I really appreciate this breakthrough from the Splinterlands team.
Honestly, when I first heard about Campaign Mode, I thought, “Oh, this is probably just a glorified tutorial, right?” But after trying it myself, I was blown away. It’s not just a basic tutorial—it’s a well-designed and thoughtfully crafted feature. Officially titled Book 1: Waur Medge Academy, this mode serves as a training academy for new players stepping into the world of Splinterlands.
The Campaign Mode consists of 11 chapters, each unlocking a new phase in the adventure. It starts from the basics of gameplay, how summoners work, and gradually builds up to team composition strategies needed to win battles.
The first chapter is a light introduction to the Splinterlands universe. But as you move into the second chapter and beyond, the lessons become more technical—like how to choose the right monsters, optimal positioning, and why understanding the ruleset is crucial. The best part? After completing each chapter, you’re rewarded with Foundation Cards and Glint, an important in-game currency used to purchase cards and items.
As a long-time player, I can say the challenges weren’t too difficult since I’m already familiar with the game mechanics. But that’s exactly why I think this feature is brilliant—it’s a shortcut to learning and comes with rewards! I even received a new 6-mana summoner card, which really helps because my collection for the Modern format is still lacking. I used to collect a lot of Chaos Legion cards, which are no longer valid in Modern. So getting the Foundation Set felt like a breath of fresh air.
There are several things I genuinely applaud Splinterlands for this time. First, all the cards you earn from Campaign Mode can be immediately used in Ranked battles—even Guild Brawls. And surprisingly, they can hold their own! I tested them in ranked matches using the Foundation deck, and they were quite competitive.
Of course, there are limitations. The Foundation cards are soulbound—meaning you can’t sell, burn, rent, or combine them for upgrades. So while they’re fantastic for starters, eventually, you’ll want to invest in upgradeable or market-tradable cards. But as a starting point, they’re truly remarkable.
What matters most about Campaign Mode isn’t just the rewards—it’s the valuable lessons it provides. It helped me revisit core fundamentals I’d forgotten over time—like why positioning matters or when to use monsters with specific abilities.
There was even a moment that made me laugh at myself. In one chapter, I randomly placed monsters without reading the instructions... and got completely wrecked! Probably because I underestimated the AI, thinking, “I’m a veteran!” Well, that backfired. I replayed the chapter, studied it more carefully, and eventually nailed it.
A Word of Advice to New Players
If you're a new player and you manage to complete all the chapters, I’m confident you’ll feel ready for ranked battles. With a full Foundation Set, there’s no need to rent cards or buy expensive booster packs. It’s also a blessing for Guilds—new players can now help fill frays more easily.
If you haven’t tried Campaign Mode yet—go for it! Not only will you earn 1,100 Glint and a complete deck, but you’ll also gain a solid, fun learning experience. These Foundation Cards are the perfect bridge from beginner to battle-ready. Even though they can’t be sold or upgraded, their value goes far beyond collectability—they help you understand the game and prepare you for real competition.
And who knows—maybe in future updates, Foundation cards will be upgradable or combinable. The future of Splinterlands is looking brighter than ever, and Campaign Mode is a very promising beginning.
