Back to Wild Mode: Surprises from Old Cards

Hello fellow Archons!

Let me share a little story about my recent decision to return to Wild mode. After spending a long time refining strategies in Modern, jumping back into battles with my old card collection felt like a whole new experience. The reason? Simple—entry to Wild mode is free this season! Yup, for this one season, we’re all given the chance to revisit and explore the past without having to spend the usual 2000 DEC. Who could resist that?

At first, I was a bit hesitant. Many of my old cards had been collecting dust, and my strategies had grown used to the rhythm of the newer cards in Modern. But… once I saw the announcement about the Conclave Arcana launch and the FREE ENTRY for 1 Season, I thought, “Alright, this is the perfect time to see how strong the mix of old and new cards can be.”

When I entered Wild mode, I was immediately placed in Gold II. That’s because I had reached Diamond in Modern last season, so the transition felt pretty smooth. But what truly got me excited wasn’t the ranking—it was the moment I could use my old cards again, the ones that had been with me since I started playing Splinterlands around four years ago.

Cards like Sand Worm—a classic game-changer—still feel incredibly solid, especially when paired with my Chaos Legion cards or even my new Archon units. I tried out a few unique lineups, and the results had my opponents scratching their heads.

Surprising Discoveries

Here are a few things that really surprised me while playing in Wild:

  1. Old cards are still relevant. Some of them can still compete, especially when used with smart positioning and solid strategy.
  2. Old card designs spark nostalgia. Seriously, looking at them again feels like flipping through an old school photo album.
  3. Glint earnings are still decent. While the SPS per battle is a bit lower (around 0.5–1 SPS), Glint rewards aren’t that different from Modern.
  4. The competition is exciting. Many veteran players are also returning to Wild, giving battles a grittier, more unpredictable vibe.

I think it's worth playing in Wild once in a while—not just to understand the history of Splinterlands cards, but also to explore unique combinations that blend old and new metas. Sometimes the best insights come from trying something different.

One important note: if Wild mode costs 2000 DEC again next season, I think that needs to be reconsidered. Maybe reduce it to 1000 DEC, or offer alternative access through certain achievements. After all, bots aren’t running wild like they used to, and opportunities like this should be more accessible for exploration.

Closing Thoughts

Playing Wild this week felt like a mini reunion. I got to use my old favorite cards that once carried me through the early days of Splinterlands—and now, they have a new chance to shine, even alongside the more complex and powerful newer cards.

The takeaway? Don’t underestimate old cards. With the right strategy and a bit of creativity, classics like Sand Worm can still deliver a serious bite! 😄

See you on the battlefield—and if you’re also playing Wild this season, let me know what your favorite strategy is. Maybe we’ll clash… or share a nostalgic moment together!

Happy battling! 🎮🔥
