Weekly-Ish Running Update... Discovered Garmin Laps!
So I did TWO interval sessions this week, I just wasn't feeling a standard 5K run, and then I did a 12K on Sunday, which is the furthest I've been in probably a couple of years!
It's been too long since I've gone that long!
For the two intervals, I mixed it up and did one longer and one shorter....
Interval session one...
I was going ton head out for a 5K, but got about 200 metres down the road, turned around and decided to instead do some intervals doing my usual 5K run in reverse.... I figured going that way around would fit better with what i had planned.
So I did 1K warm up and then...
- 1K
- 400 metres
- 200 metres.....
Then repeated.

And chucked in an extra 200 at the end!
My thinking was I wanted to start the first 1K interval at 2Ks and then the second 1K interval at 3Ks.
So with rest periods in between that all works out! i.e.. walking for about 150 metres between each interval enables that.
Of course having done this it then occurred me I have a perfectly good 'laps' function on the Garmin which I can activate with literally one push of a button which measures my pace for any distance I so choose whenever I want to start in a run!
So I used that during my next interval session!
Interval Session 2...
Here I did my standard local intervals, slightly modified as I'd discovered laps...
So I did...after warming up...
- 800 - semi warm up
- 600
- 400
- 400
- 200

I'll probably stick to this, I wish the actual running track was back open, but it's being resurfaced, won't be available until at least July!
Sunday's Long Run
It was damp cool Sunday, but not raining, nice for a run. I did the local circuit, ran the whole thing rather than run-walking which I have been doing for the first third up until now.

Felt pretty good, upped the pace a little for the last 4 Ks, but I was feeling it by the last one, but still happy enough with this!
Final Thoughts...
All in all I'd say a good week's running!

I've not used the Garmin intervals for a while. You can set up any that you want. It seems to send them on to Strava in the results so you can see how you did.
I'm sure you could run further. I quite enjoy the longer runs to work on my endurance and just explore.

I like to mix up the length of runs, 12K was enough for today! Maybe I'll go further sometime soon, just need to work out my routes!

Haha at "I shouldn't make commercial" :D Maybe something to worry about when you have more youtube subscribers! Quite interesting content though, these things should get more subs on there and here.

Wow man It's great to hear how you're leveraging the Garmin laps for better insights into your runs. It's amazing how small tweaks in technology can really enhance performance and motivation. The grind never ends
I've never used apps to track running, did a notebook a few times, but can certainly see its benefit. I guess I'm a bit old-school like that but having to use an app to monitor my GCM implant and all the data it captures and presents has changed my mind somewhat, and now I can't leave my phone home so having it on a run is a thing.
Nice work with the interval training, strong benefits there.
Garmin has great software for the tracking, all free once you've bought the device! It's quite something!
I've always used Garmin SATNAV units and they're amazing...looked at a watch once but just couldn't justify the cost verses the amount of usage (not all that much) I'd give it. All their products seem to be pretty good and their support is also. (Important these days)
