On working for the man vs working for yourself!
So the 8-10 months or so prior to the last couple of months had been a bit of a painful experience of watching my self-employed income going steadily down.
It didn't quite get to the point where I was ever going to be destitute, but it did get the point where I decided to go back into the regular employment market.
I started back in January this year, and now have five months of very part-time freelance work for 'the man' under my belt, and for the most part of I am sick of it!
Not all of it... I have one nice little teaching gig working for an old friend/ colleague of mine - 3 days in a row for £600, fine, but I've only done one of those in the last five months, and one next week coming up! Not enough to seriously ruffle one's feathers...
My other job, the interviewing for NatCen has, however, been a right pain in the ass. It has involved working some evenings and some weekends, and man do I object to that.
But not only that. it's the crappy pay system, and the accountability, and the computer system, the damn system, the feeling of working for the man.
And knowing full-well there is a lot more money floating around than I or any other of the frontline workers are getting paid.
Thankfully that job is coming to an end soon, I got myself a much better paid upgrade, working for a smaller company, I think the size here is going to make a difference!

Yet working for myself is so much better...
I have seen my usual exam season springtime uptick in traffic and it's been nice, and the uptick is slightly more than I thought it would have been, maybe Google's algo is now even more efficient?
And I've had better resource sales than expected.
And thanks to a very productive convo with my ad manager recently I've learned that some videos I produced this time last year have done very well, keeping my revenue up.
So I've now got something of a new focus... I know roughly how much a video will earn per month, and so I know that a few hours spent producing one video this month will yield me many many times that in future months.
It's the kind of work I like to do - not working for an hourly rage, but working as a Vest: stacking now for the future.
All safe in the knowledge that I get 90% of the ad revenue generated rather than the man getting most of it!
Final Thoughts...
Working for yourself clearly wins, hands down!
There is no comparison, surely!!!

At this stage, I think most of us have been institutionalised but don't even know it. I went to the office for a few hours last week, it was a shock to the system to work around others IRL, I prefer in my basement. Cool things happen there, like last night I caught a mouse from under the sofa and ran to release him in the field.
Oh working from home sounds much nicer@ I know what you mean about working out - much less pleasant!
I suppose it depends on the job and work. As an Electrician I did not mind working for a big company on lots of big jobs for a long time. I looked at doing it for myself a few times but it always seemed to competitive and complicated.
!LOL

You're right, is gonna depend, if you're lucky enough to work for a decent company it makes all the difference!
Wow brother, It's great to hear about your experiences with both self-employment and working for a company. It seems to me like being your own boss is the better option, especially with the freedom to focus on what you love and reap the rewards in the long run.
Anyone who works hard will be successful whether it is a girl or a boy, but nowadays those who are sitting at home and working have more benefits because they will also be able to spend time with their families.
