Share Your Battle - Which Low Mana Dragon Cards Are Good?

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Dragons! We all know there are many big and powerful Dragons cards but do you know that there are many interesting low mana Dragon cards as well?

One of them is Dhampir Infiltrator. At just 4 mana, it has both Sneak and Double Strike abilities and when paired with Daria Dragonscale, it can deal 2 x 2 = 4 damage per turn.

As usual, here's the lore for Dhampir Infiltrator for your reading interest:

Unofficially, Dhampir Infiltrators are employed by the Gloridax Empire as spies, thieves, and assassins. Because of their half-vampire lineage, they are especially proficient at their work; they have the unnatural reflexes, strength, and agility of a vampire yet are not harmed by sunlight. They do, however, require blood to survive, and the blood of dragons is powerful indeed. It's rumored that the Gloridax provide the Infiltrators with an ample supply to further enhance their already unnatural abilities.

Another of them is Whelp Herder. At just 3 mana, it comes with the extremely dangerous Opportunity ability. If you are a fan of Deeplurker, this is a mini version of it. Similar to Dhampir Infiltrator, when paired with Daria Dragonscale, its 2 damage is very decent.

As usual, here's the lore for Whelp Herder for your reading interest:

The first whelp pens were built on the Sands over a century ago—tall, fenced domes that were sturdy enough to hold a dozen of the creatures. Without exercise, however, the young dragons became unruly and sometimes violent. The Gloridax traders employed Whelp Herders, nomadic dragonborn well-practiced in dealing with young dragons, many of whom had collected their eggs from Dragon’s Roost. A skilled Whelp Herder could ensure the young whelps got the exercise they needed while keeping them safe from predators and preventing escape.

Whelp Herders carry long crooks imbued with magic that subdues the whelps, making them easier to control. If a whelp wanders too high, the crook can snare it from the sky. And when predators threaten the herd, the crooks can be a formidable weapon.

Finally, this is an Epic card. At 4 mana, Manticore packs 6 HP together with a high speed and Flying ability. With such stats, this is extremely hard to take down.

As usual, here's the lore for Manticore for your reading interest:

Another product of the twisted genetic experiments of the Gloridax is on the loose. The hybrid monster known as the Manticore is a cross between a Dragon, a Lion, a scorpion, and countless other monstrosities from which it draws its powers. Except when summoned to battle, the Manticore answers to no one.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelManaNotes
SummonerDaria Dragonscale4I decided to go with Dragon Melee lineup for this low mana battle so Daria Dragonscale would be the natural choice.
1Mycelic Morphoid1Mycelic Morphoid was used to take full advantage of the Equaliser modifier in this battle.
2Manticore4Manticore fit into the 2nd place because it is a Melee card with Reach ability.
3Naga Assassin2Naga Assassin was also another card that would benefit greatly from the Equaliser modifier. Unlike normal battles, this had Close Range modifier so I parked her under the 3rd position, hoping that the 5 Speed would cause some problems for my opponent.
4Dhampir Infiltrator4Dhampir Infiltrator was my trump card and it was important for her to be protected at all costs so that I had a good chance of winning. She was slotted in the middle of the lineup.
5Whelp Herder3Whelp Herder was the secondary trump card because Opportunity ability can turn battles around sometimes.
6Creeping Ooze1It was an Equalizer battle after all so I tried to fit a full team of 6 cards. With the last 1 mana left, Creeping Ooze came in handy.

  • Pre Battle: Ouch, a Magic lineup from my opponent. Melee lineups usually don't end well against Magic lineups, though I had 1 card advantage this time. Regal Peryton would be tough to hit so let's see what happens.
    image.png
  • Round 1: My tank went down easily with all the relentless Magic damage from the opposing side. Dhampir Infiltrator and Whelp Herder combined to take out the last card to keep my team in the running.
    image.png
  • Round 2: I was having a lot of issues with my opponent's tank because they had a healer. Fortunately, my Sneak and Opportunity cards combined to take out another card from the backline and I had a two card advantage now.
    image.png
  • Round 3: As expected, my team started to stumble against Regal Peryton as Dhampir Infiltrator missed one of her hits. My advantage withered down to one card now.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Another two misses from Dhampir Infiltrator and the battle was getting nervy. Victory now depended on how much time I needed to get rid of Regal Peryton.
    image.png

  • Round 5: Finally! Dhampir Infiltrator took out Regal Peryton - always good that she had two attempts every turn. Closing in to victory for sure!

  • Round 6: Yay we are done!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I tried to be creative and attempted a Dragon Melee lineup for a low mana battle. I believe that this is quite unconventional but fortunately, I had enough in the tank to scrape through and overcome a relentless Magic attack.

Do I like Dragons? Dragons are fun because they can mix with other elements which means you have two decks to select your lineups. That's literally the best of both worlds.

Final thoughts? Do take a look at the low mana Dragon cards! They can be as valuable as the big ones too! And let me know if you have more recommendations!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

The way you explained your strategy is attractive. I never for once give attention to splinterlands. But, base on your explanation, it's of interest.
