Share Your Battle - How High Can You Go For 99 Mana Battles?

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Dragons! This reminded me of a 99 mana battle and I was wondering how high can you go for 99 mana fights, without compromising on the lineup strategy, i.e. not spamming high mana cards for the sake of it.

For my deck, the highest mana card I have is Chaos Dragon. With Flying and Scattershot at Level 1, Chaos Dragon is a very strong card but unfortunately, with 14 mana, the only time it gets selected would only be high mana battles.

As usual, here's the lore for Chaos Dragon for your reading interest:

The Chaos Realm has preyed upon many a world, opening rifts in time and space to invade the lands and take from its people. When they attacked Praetoria and the Splinterlands, it was first thought that the minions were compelled through the portal for their fear of the dark shade that lurked beyond the gate, the shadowed image of Uul. Eventually though, when the last of the armies stepped through, there came such a prodigious monster that at first, none could believe it was real. A nightmare dragged forth into reality.

As it flew through the spinning vortex, the Chaos Dragon let forth a violent shriek, so loud that it was felt in the far reaches of every Splinter. The people of Praetoria fell to their knees, terror taking the strength from their legs and the courage from their hearts. For an army of monsters can be fought, the land defended with righteous fervor. But when even the invading hordes are fleeing before such a beast, what hope can there be? The answer is none when the eater of worlds has arrived, the true devourer of existence.

Surely such a thing couldn’t be the puppet of Uul? How could anyone command a creature that has flown from one cosmos to another, feeding upon alien planets? But it was his most potent being, one that existed before time had conceived the very gift of life itself.

PositionCard/LevelManaNotes
SummonerDaria Dragonscale4Daria Dragonscale is one of my favourite Dragon summoners because Dragons have a very good tank and an even better secondary tank with Reach. With an Enrage battle modifier, it was a no brainer to pick Daria Dragonscale!
1Djinn Chwala8Djinn Chwala is not a Legendary card but it somehow is a very strong tank. With 5 Armor and 9 HP, it soaks a lot of damage for a 8 mana card and returns damage via Thorns too.
2Carnage Titan11Carnage Titan's Double Strike makes it an exceptionally strong card and with the partnership of Daria Dragonscale's boost, that's 3+3 damage per turn.
3Queen Of Crows9This is a new card from Riftwatchers and her 11 HP is pretty massive and her Close Range ability makes her a good tank for a Ranged card.
4Djinn Muirat9Djinn Muirat's strength lies in Void Armor but its damage output becomes weak if the opponent uses Thaddius Brood. Still a must have card for high mana battles.
5Lira The Dark7It's not the biggest mana card in my selection but Lira The Dark is a card that can turn battles around with her Opportunity ability and opponents miss her very easily due to her 6 Speed. For mid mana battles, she is an extremely strong last card to fend off attacks on the backline.
6Chaos Dragon14Chaos Dragon slots in at the back of the backline and effectively protects the entire team against any sneaky cards. With 3 Speed, 10 HP, and Flying, it's very challenging to take it out.

  • Pre Battle: My opponent was using almost a full deck of Level 2 cards but there were no Legendary cards. On the other hand, my deck has Level 1 cards but 4 Legendary cards. In terms of overall HP (excluding Armor), my team clearly outnumbered by 51 to 31. There was no way I was going to lose this...

  • Round 1: Both teams had strong damage output and wiped out both tanks. My team was weakened by the opposing Disintegrator but fortunately, I diversified my attack types, with 2 Melee, 2 Ranged, and 2 Magic cards. Pretty even at this point.

  • Round 2: Lira The Dark struck out their healer thanks to Opportunity and my opponent was having trouble hitting my Enraged Carnage Titan of 5 Speed.

  • Round 3: And it's over in 3 rounds, with my Enraged Carnage Titan dealing 5+5 damage and a final strike by Chaos Dragon. Easy win here.

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I am glad I have a very good collection of high mana cards, especially Legendary cards. I feel that 99 mana battle is a good test for the depth of players' decks because most of the starter cards are not useful and it goes down to what are the strong Epic or Legendary cards players have. For players who invest more in their decks, they are likely to be victorious.

Do I like Dragons? Yes of course! They are my 2nd favourite after Water, because you can mix Dragons with other elements to make very strong lineups. Dragons have a very good mix of cards that complement other elements too.

Final thoughts? If you had counted, my team was 62 mana in this battle. So share with me, how high can you go for 99 mana fights? :)

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
