Custom dimensions 2500x1500 px.jpeg

Hello Hive

I'm here once again to reveal another puzzle in the sense that every splinterlands ruleset serves as a puzzle that requires unlocking. Whether you win or lose trying to unlock it is up to you and the strategy you must have deployed. Having said that, we have another puzzle to unravel and this time it came in the name "Odd Ones Out". I'd love to always maintain the methods which am already known with. In regard to that, I extend an invitation to play to everyone who has yet to try out the spl game. Also, do well to join the weekly battle mage secrets if it interests you. For technical know-how on participating, kindly visit the announcement post for the week.

Odd Ones Out (what does this mean?)

As I mentioned earlier, rulesets are a puzzle that requires a great strategy to its unraveling. They add difficulties to each battle and, at the same time serve as a tool that makes each battle unique. Each ruleset has a unique image identity that guides the player on the rules biding to the battle

The image above informs us that the battle we are about to engage in has the odd ones out ruleset, which simply means that only monsters with odd mana cost may be used in the said battle, a limiting factor that isn't significant in the use of summoners. This is to say, while only odd mana monsters may in used in the battle, the ruleset doesn't include summoners.

As we can see, being able to use only odd mana cost monsters has changed our conventional thought, and therefore, a way out (strategy) is required to achieve success in such a battle. Now, let's take a look at the strategy used for the presented battle.

The Battle Strategy

When picking a strategy for a battle, there are things to take into consideration. One such thing to consider is the room given to you by the mana cap. Here, the mana caps at 17 which doesn't give much room for many monsters.

The elements made available for the battle are another thing to consider as one element might have a better monster in that category than the other. Also, while planning to build your team around a particular monster, take into consideration the power of a team but a team of little league might easily be eaten up by a bloodlust monster.

My strategy here puts the other ruleset that accompanied the odd ones into consideration first, which is why I had to use an anti-melee attack summoner to curtain the effect of melee mayhem. Secondly, I opted for a defender that has the piercing ability, this is to prepare for a possible heavy armor opponent. Other things the strategy intended to gain from the monster are the trample, life leech, and cripple ability

Team Selection

Summoner: CAMILA SUNGAZER
Rarity/Element: Legendary/Dragon
Stats: -1 melee damage against the opponent

I will say that my choice of summoner was as a result of the second ruleset which is melee mayhem. I Imagined facing melee monsters with heavy damage and the thought didn't well so I had to make plans on how to avoid that possible mayhem. The best at the time was Camila Sungazer. With its -1 melee damage stat, I was able to keep the opponent's melee monsters in check.

DESERT DRAGON

In most small mana cap battles, the outcome of the battle most times is determined by how formidable the defender of the team is. I choose Desert Dragon for three reasons. First, high melee damage, second, trample ability and third, piercing ability. The piercing gives it the ability to hit past armor and with trample, it continues to the next monster after eliminating the one it goes against

CARRION SHADE

Thanks to the melee mayhem ruleset, any melee can attack from any position. Carrion Shade had to follow immediately behind the defender. Although it's not a defensive card, its flying ability can make melee and ranged monsters miss their target when it is being targeted. Secondly, It had to buy more time for the life leech monster to gather more health.

LIFE SAPPER

The choice of Life Sapper was to gain from its life-leeching ability. Most times the extra health they get while damaging other monsters could determine the outcome of battles. Secondly, it's a magic attack monster which means it goes directly for the health irrespective of the the weight of the target monster, although this doesn't include void armor monsters

DARK FERRYMAN

Choosing Dark Ferryman was a decision that was based on its ability to cripple its targets. In a small mana cap battle, every little contribution is important. Meanwhile, having 2 ranged damage, crippling ability and 5 health wasn't bad at all. Ferryman with the other team members carried out the assignment they were tasked with successfully with minimal damage.

That will be all for this week. I hope you enjoyed the read. Please join me next week for another battle mage secrets challenge same place. Leave a comment on how the strategy can be better or any other of your choice.
