The Path To Splinterlands Glory - Legends in the Making

Every battle mage has a journey... and every legend starts somewhere!

This week, I’m taking a moment to shine the spotlight on my personal story within the vast and ever-evolving world of Splinterlands. From my humble beginnings as a fresh-faced summoner to the fierce battles that shaped me, it’s been a wild ride filled with strategy, growth, and unforgettable moments.

Whether you're a seasoned player or just getting started, I hope my journey inspires you to embrace your path, forge your own legend, and dive deeper into the magic that makes this game so powerful.

Stay tuned, and let the chronicles unfold... PVM was a newbie as well!

How did you discover Splinterlands?

As Deckard Cain once said... Stay Awhile and Listen! Splinterlands isn't just a game... it's a dynamic universe that has the potential to shape and transform lives. Is it the thrill of battles or the joy of collecting cards that kept you plugged to this amazing metaverse!

Now ... stay awhile and listen PVM's story... one that started on Christmas Day! I stumbled on Splinterlands back in the early NFT wave, more like forced by my brother! He helped me to create my Hive wallet and told me I will like the gameplay!

What caught my eye was the mix of strategy and ownership, a bit diferent than the Hearthstone I was playing back in 2020! Once I played a few matches, I was hooked.

I started looking for the early articles and the first battle challenge I wrote about it was published on the 25th of January 2025, one month after I started playing! The topic was about dragon summoners, and I won just because my opponent made a noob selection!

What was your first card or most memorable early battle?
My first card was ... I can't remember! Five years are gone and all I know was that my deck was made of basic cards and some better units that my brother borrowed me along the way. However, the focus on battle challenge articles made me buy the cards requested by the topic!

Say hello to the Naga Warrior... the first card I bought from the market! This Alpha/Beta Epic melee monster costs 5 Mana and has 6 Health Points. With 3 Attack Power, 3 Speed and the Retaliate ability, it's a card can change a hard melee battle.

What a blast from the past! What a different UI from the one we are enjoying now on Splinterlands! Close range as the battle rule and only 18 mana cap made it interesting, an I used the Naga to tick the boxes for my article!

Bortus :1 Spell Power for opponents monsters

Naga Warrior - Main Tank with Retaliate

Wave Runner - Secondary Tank with Reach

Furious Chicken - Just because it's free

Water Elemental - Spellcaster with Heal

The opposing team came in hot—literally—with a lineup from the Fire Splinter, led by the fiery Lava Elemental as their frontliner and the brutish Ettin Spearman positioned as their main source of heavy damage. The moment the battle began, I knew this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park.

The Lava Elemental took center stage, absorbing hits while dishing out ranged damage with surprising precision. But by Round Two, the heat started to fade. My team’s focused assault wore down the elemental’s defenses, and with one final blow, it crumbled under pressure, clearing the way for the real threat: the Ettin Spearman.

At the same time, my stalwart Naga Warrior was taking a brutal beating. Despite her resilience and thorns damage, she couldn’t withstand the combined assault for long—she fell shortly after, leaving the frontline exposed and the outcome hanging in the balance.

The tide was turning, but it was still anyone’s game. Was just a matter of grinding for the Water Elemental and Wave Runner to take the Ettin down and win the battle.

The tactic for the game was succesful, as the Naga Warrior survived enough to shield the Water Elemental to nuke the opponent monsters. The Wave Runner could hit from behind the Naga and deal damage. I will use the Naga Warrior more often, as the 3 damage from the retaliate can be a game changer.

How has your strategy evolved since you started?

Splinterlands is not... just another game! Splinterlands brought a revolution in blockchain gaming, seamlessly blending strategy with the perks of decentralization. The players truly own their in-game assets, and the battles are epic!

Whether you're purchasing cards from the shop, unlocking reward chests, or opening packs, each asset is securely stored on the blockchain, giving you complete control over your collection. Want a crash course?

But how was it back in the days? Promoting in upper leagues and opening reward chests was the way! I completed the weekly challenges, got new cards and progressed all the way to Silver III just minutes before the end of the season.

March 2021 came with the spring, sunshine and ... cool battle challenges. I reached Silver III again and I got some cool cards from chests, which raised my stash of epic cards to six amazing cards: the Pyromancer, the Coral Wraith, Torhilo the Frozen, the Axemaster, Mitica Headhunter and the War Chaang.

image.png

My strategy was all on offens, with max damage glass cannon style. Over time, I learned the importance of synergies, mana curve, and counterplay. Now I think more like a chess player, acting slow and adapting to the trends! I'm not far from where I was four years ago... still aiming for Silver!

From 2020 to 2025 I managed to rise all the way to Diamond II, then fall back into the murky waters of Bronze tiers!

image.png

What was differend in my journey? I've done many transfers between WAX chain and my Splinterlands account! In the first days after the bridge was open, some real rip off were added to the Atomic Hub market.

Days later everything calmed down and if you are in treasure hunting mode, you can find cards and summoners much cheaper than the Spinterlands internal market. I bought OG summoners for only $0.90, which are now twenty times more expensive!

image.png

I spent about 20 WAX to buy the new summoner and upgrade some of the monsters I use constantly in my battles. Found a whole batch of Undead Rexx and bought them all to upgrade it to Level 3.

Upgraded my Barking Spider and the Wave Runner to Level 2 and bought and upgraded the Vampire. I seen the Vampire in some battles and I always wanted one in my army of Forsakens.

Sending cards from WAX to the Hive blockchain requires extra attention. The users have to send the cards to “splintrlands” and add their Hive blockchain account name in the memo. Please note that the account is “splintrlands” and misses an ‘e’.

What are your goals in the game now?
Climb the leagues is the prime goal, but also to build out a killer collection and master all Splinters! I’m also eyeing land gameplay and potential governance roles. Long-term goals and positivity ... as I want to contribute to the game ecosystem!

The progression through the tiers has become more difficult, and recently I am struggling in the bronze tier! I hoped that Survival Mode will change the dynamics, but it did it only for the whales!

I played 58 games on Survival, and decided to stick to Wild after winning only 15 of them. At least in the Wild Mode I can use my older cards and beat the new wave of battle mages! The win ratio close to 50% is a proof that I know it better!

image.png

Yeah, I’ve taken my fair share of spanking! I’ve watched my tanks crumble, my backline get sniped into oblivion, and my perfectly planned lineups go down in flames. But every loss has been a lesson—and every battle gets me one step closer to mastery.

I might not be topping the leaderboards, but I’m out here showing up, experimenting, evolving my strategy, and having a damn good time along the way. Because in Splinterlands, even the Mega Loosers can become legends in the making.

Still fighting... still learning... and really proud of my Splinterlands title!
