🎸★Shan(Tai) long drum with "Noke and Toe" dances and the Rising Star game 🎶🎼

Dear friends,

As I described in my previous post, our Shan long drums are used in festivals and ceremonies to produce lively joyful musical tones. And there are special cases where they are being used. In our Shan tradition, we have special dances, which are our "Noke and Toe" dances.

Noke here means a mythical bird, which is half bird and half human. And Toe is also a mythical creature which resemble a lama (I am not sure it means lama itself or a creature resembling it). The reason why those dances are special goes back to the time when our Lord Buddha ascended to the abode of gods called "Trāyastriṃśa" to give sermon to the gods, one of them was used to be his mother in his previous life. And when the Lord Buddha descended to the world, humans and other creatures were very pleased and welcomed Him because it had been three months time since He departed to Trāyastriṃśa.
Humans welcomed with light lanterns and other creatures danced merrily welcoming Him. Among the creatures, Nokes and Toes were ones of them. And later, our Shan people imitate those dances and started dancing like Noke and Toe to bring auspiciousness. So, one can see those dances in most of our opening ceremonies and at the start of festivals. Below is the old photo of Toe and Shan people. The photo was said to be taken in 1912.

Those Noke and Toe dances are performed with the music from our Shan long drum set. The dancers dance in harmony with the music from the Shan long drum set. They are performed separately - Noke dance comes first and then Toe dance because the step movements are not the same. In the Toe dance, the Toe is usually accompanied (guarded) by a hairy creature like a snowman that we called "Kone Khone" in our language but later in these days dances, it is not seen anymore; instead we can find a human guardian usually with sword.

The following is the Youtube video of Noke and Toe dance performances at a Shan New Year ceremony in Shan state, Myanmar. I think you will notice the Shan long drum sound from behind whose music is in harmony with the steps of the dancers. The dance started with Noke and the Toe dance started at 4:40 minutes.
