My Gods Unchained Experience

I started playing I think in November/December, and it was a time when I was getting into crypto and realizing that instead of playing other games I could be playing AND earning. I researched a bunch of games after learning about Axie Infinity and GU caught my eye because I play Hearthstone and a card game seems like a great way to integrate NFTs and gaming. It really appealed to me because unlike Axie, you don’t have to purchase anything to start playing.

My first content was on Hive about how I got a Legendary Pack from Mythic Weekly Ranked 4-5 weeks after starting as a Free-to-Play player. I decided shortly after to try to attain these Legendary Packs with all the Gods, especially since there was a lot of chatter about this game being Pay-To-Win, which I completed after about 3 months. At this time, Core Refresh just happened and I saw an opportunity to try to accomplish the same feat with just Welcome and Core cards for all the Gods. Luckily, I was able to with 3 of the Gods which was surprising. Finally, I’ve moved on to try to play with all the different Tribes in the game because I feel like there’s some fun cards there and I enjoy playing off-meta, and I’m still in the process of doing that, with the last one being Guild.

My Background

I currently work for an Oil and Gas company; I started as an Embedded Software engineer and now I’ve moved on to a strictly software project. My education was in Electrical Engineering.

I’ve been playing video games for as long as I remember. I actually played Magic The Gathering when I was very young; I started when 4th Edition was out and the first expansion I remembered playing with was Ice Age. I loved the art and the cool world-building that you experience card by card. However, as I was young I wasn’t really making money so keeping up with Magic was hard. I played with a few friends but over time people just stopped playing. I then gave all my cards away, which I probably shouldn’t have done, as I’m sure there’s some value there haha, especially since I somehow collected a few Alpha/Beta cards.

I got back into card games after my coworker introduced me to Hearthstone. I was hooked from early on, and I’ve been playing it for 7-8 years now on and off, although lately I’ve been playing it a lot more since my CoD friends stopped playing that haha. I was mostly an Arena player before (my avg wins is ok at 4.4, though this month it’s at 4.9!) but I’ve been playing so long that I have quite an amount of unopened packs and gold and dust that I started playing Constructed as well. I don’t really like the grind though and I like the variety of Arena, where you play with a different deck for up to 15 games and then you “draft” a new deck.

Why Vote For Me

I think there are some really awesome and smart people that are in nomination for the Council. So why vote for me? As I stated previously I love to explore different off-meta options, and one of my main goals was to show you can do well as a F2P player. Most of the streamers and others on the nomination list have a large collection and I’m definitely not there yet. I want to make sure that no one comes into this game and think that they’ll just give up because they can’t compete without dropping a lot of cash, and thereby promoting new player engagement and retainment. It’s not just the weekends now, but during the week as well that the competition is getting much tougher. Honestly I think right now it’s a little tough being F2P, and I want to ensure that there will always be a few options for those that are not ready to spend big.

Also, as someone that drops ranks a lot from playing off-meta decks on the weekends, I know that climbing (back) to Mythic is difficult. And maybe it should be as it’s the highest rank, but I want to make sure players feel like they’re getting rewarded even if they can’t climb the ranks currently. I’m not sure how much time the other nominees spend in lower ranks but I can definitely attest there I’ve seen quite a few Demos and Jasons in the Gold ranks.
Finally, I want people to still have fun. Sure everyone has fun in their own way, but I want there to be as much variety as possible. And not just in terms of decks and archetypes, but also in game modes (remember how much I love HS Arena!) and other ways like showing off cool limited time trinkets/boards or something.

Oh yea, and to have some Reddit/Hive representation there. I do hang out on Discord mostly in the Balance Channel, but I’ve used Reddit for so long for other games (Final Fantasy Record Keeper 😥 RIP) and I think it’s a great way to share content and have conversations.

What I’d Do With the GODs Allowance

The proposed monthly allowance is a lot, especially for a F2P/budget player like me. But don’t worry, I’m not gonna hoard it or buy up cards then try to sell them to you for more haha. I genuinely believe that some tribes/archetypes not really seen right now has a chance. I was pretty close to breaking 50% winrate with my Atlantean deck a few weeks back. If I can afford a couple of Boost Walkers to go with Spiral Golems, I think it really has a chance. So yea, that’s what I’d be doing, putting it back into these forgotten tribes/cards/archetypes because I find it fun to play with a variety of decks, and hopefully do well with them.
