F2P War Mythic Weekend Ranked Legendary Pack Achieved! (16 Wins)

A weekly recap of my Mythic Weekend Ranked experience, now attempting to do a F2P Gauntlet with all the Gods to show that they can all compete and get Legendary packs. Previously I’ve done Nature for 3 weeks to show its consistency, and this is my second week with War. See my first 5 week’s journey to 20/25 wins here
This is my second week with Aggro War and I did it! I ended up with 16 wins, as my goal was to hit 15 wins to get the Legendary Pack. After adjusting my deck from last week I was able to be a little more consistent, as opening with an Enduring Shield in hand is quite strong. My previous week’s post is here.

Weekend | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
God | Nature | Nature | Nature | War | War |
Wins | 20 | 19 | 17 | 13 | 16 |
Prize (USD) | $50 | $34.5 | $27.5 | $19 | $27.5 |
Here’s the deck that I used, even less expensive than the previous version by a fraction (0.0171 ETH or ~$53).

I did fine against most of the Gods this week, and the switch to Munosian Infiltrator helped to keep the Broccolis and All-Seeing Spires in check. Deception seems to be getting more play and also stronger every week; if they open with a Hollow there’s a good chance you’d get out-valued. If they play Pickpocket it depends if they copy a good card or not. They’re also pretty good at keeping aggro at bay with Order and Burn. The only Magic deck I lost to was a ramp variety; if they can keep me at bay in the beginning then they have good answers with board clears and big frontline creatures.

After having competed in Mythic Weekend with 2 Gods, I want to give a little analysis of this deck vs the Nature one I used, as well as improvements that can be made with some card investments.
Deck Pros
-No confused creatures or spells which is nice, more straight forward gameplay
-Very good early game especially with an equipped Enduring Shield to keep creatures on board, to trigger Frenzy and gain Favor
-Great early game threats that can be buffed to win you the game (or put your opponent low on health) if your opponent doesn’t have an answer (Protected Thunder Caller, Another Round or Redfume Serum on any creature)
-Decent mid-game reach to finish the game with Slayer as well as Flank and Blade of Styx
-Pretty fast games usually
Deck Cons
-No card draw or generation. What you draw is what you get, so use the Sanctum well
-Hard to regain control; if you lose the board early, there’s a high chance you lost the game. The sole savior here is Sole Survivor (see what I did here 😛), but if you have no creatures on board, hope you draw a decent 1-mana one at 7 mana. With the nerf to the damage, a Sole Surviving Trial Spirit isn’t going to clear everything
-There are times when you have multiple weapons in hand, or multiple buffs but no creatures to use it with. This is a bigger issue with an aggro deck like this because you want to close the game out as quickly as possible
-All the above and the dependence on the early game made this deck feel a little inconsistent depending on your draw
Some common upgrades to this deck if you want to invest some GODS or ETH are Master Tactician, Oddi, and Scythes:
Master Tactician 0.0249 ETH ($77) – Great sticky minion that can also help with reach by providing flank. The 2-mana slot is already pretty packed but could remove a Raid Reveller or Thunder Caller or Trial Spirit for it
Oddi, Valka’s Herald 0.0126 ETH ($40) – A strict upgrade to Raid Reveller that can help you throw minions down even faster if left alone. However, it’s rarely left alone
Scythes of the Harvest 0.0538 ETH ($168) – Costs one more mana than Blade of Styx but has one more attack, and it gives one of your creatures +1 strength. Gives more reach and board control, but it’s not as much an upgrade to War as Underbrush Boars are to Nature
Pyramid Warden would help this deck too by providing a large body that can stick around for your buffs. It feels like it’s harder to improve this deck bit by bit unlike the Nature Beast deck, since a lot of slots feel optimized already. There are other ways to play Aggro of course, and I’ve seen decks that use Out of Misery to draw a buffed creature, but unless you go with Valka’s Presence instead of Slayer, it’s not always going to find a target. And if you do that it feels less like an Aggro deck and more mid-range.

Now that I have completed War, I will be moving on to the next God. As you’ll see in the next section where I open my packs from the previous week, it looks more and more like I’ll be playing a Structure Magic deck! I will wait until I get packs for this week to lock it in. I did play against an Aether Magic deck that looked interesting as well, so if I don’t feel that the Structure deck is doing well I will try that instead. Wish me luck!

I didn’t get any Legendary Packs last week but the Epic Packs were pretty decent! The first one had two Shadow cards, one of which I think sees use, and the second contained a Legendary card anyways! It was Anagreos though which is one of the cheapest DO Legendaries haha at $5. More interesting is that the packs gave me an Aggravated Architect, Snowstorm Spire, Defend the Ramparts, and All-Seeing Spire which means it really wants me to play a Structure Magic deck next. It also came with decent Death cards like Pan Forgemaster, Decaying Rhino, Voracious Fiend, and Overseer of Vitality, so maybe Zombie Death after??
