A weekly recap of my Mythic Weekend Ranked experience, now attempting to do a F2P Gauntlet with all the Gods to show that they can all compete and get Legendary packs. Previously I’ve done Nature for 3 weeks to show its consistency, and now I’ve moved on to War. See my first 5 week’s journey to 20/25 wins here

Weekend 8 Feb 4th-6th

This is the first week moving on from Nature and I’ve decided on an Aggro War deck, as Control War seems to cost a little more. I ended up with 13 wins; my goal is to hit 15 wins as under the new reward structure that is where the Legendary packs begin. I gotta say the competition feels more fierce with the new system as less people are de-ranking now (which is great!), plus moving to a new deck warrants some additional time to get comfortable. The nerfs to War during the last re-balance didn’t help neither. But I’ll take some lessons and re-adjust my deck and hopefully I’ll clinch that pack! Luckily, the new rewards structure gave me a decent amount of packs albeit no Legendaries.

Here’s the deck that I used, pretty budget friendly (0.0173 ETH or ~$55) as I committed to not selling any Nature cards to fund this, but if needed I will invest GODS into it as the Play to Earn event is back!

I started off great with 5 wins in a row and then loss 5 in a row haha. Lots of Nature decks here and I feel my deck is pretty weak against them; hard to keep board presence and when they drop that giant Moose I have a hard time dealing with it. I also faced a few Zombie Death decks which are a bad matchup for me if they draw the scepter or even obelisk early as I don’t have relic or hard removal. I even faced the same Zombie guy twice, two losses in a row! I also got out-valued by Deception decks again, again the lack of removal hurts. The removal tools I have are Blitz creatures which is not great against Order or Backline. Dominated the Zoo Light decks so at least there’s that. It’s not that hard getting used to the Aggro War play style coming from Nature’s Midrange where I have decent removal makes it seem harder to stay in control.

Going Forward

I need to tinker this deck to make it better against Nature and maybe Death, not sure how to deal with Deception. These are some proposals to the deck that I’ll consider before next Weekend:

image(12).png

✔️Enduring Shield ❌Valka’s Captain – I feel like when I open with Enduring Shield turn 1 I can maintain better control of the board. I initially only started with one copy because I felt drawing it later on may seem like a tempo loss. However, I’ll give this a try. The reason why I’m removing Valka’s Captain is that there are quite a few times when I didn’t want to play him due to him replacing my equipped relic.

✔️Munosian Infiltrator x2 ❌Skeleton Heavy x2 – Hopefully this change will give me a better opening especially against Nature; while the Skellies are F2P staples, with the Warmonger nerf to only +1 to attack I feel like it’s hard to control the openings even if I had Enduring Shield. The Infiltrators would do great to help if the opponent had a Broccoli or Skeleton or even just a Boar (and of course Pyramid Warden) Plus this will one-shot All-Seeing Spires from Magic which is nice because I don’t have any other direct damage.

✔️Redfume Serum ❌Over-proof Brew – This was a tough choice because I believed Over-proof Brew can help with pushing damage as well as protect against The Hunt. It did save me a few times this weekend but ultimately there were quite a lot of times it was a dead card, or I had to kill off one or two of my own creatures because they were at 1 health. Redfume does provide a bigger boost to face damage more consistently as I only need one body to throw it on, whereas Over-proof would need 3 bodies to stay alive to overtake the damage boost. It IS scary going against a Lightning Strike though and still susceptible to The Hunt. These were the cards that I loved when I was playing Nature haha.

I did think about getting rid of one Thunder Caller instead of perhaps Valka’s Captain, but an Enduring Shield + Thunder Caller combo is pretty strong (unless again you’re going against Nature where they can hero power or Low-Hanging Fruit then Barrage you…) so we’ll see how that goes. If you have suggestions please let me know!

Last Week's Rewards

W8 Legend.png

Got a Triage Necromancer which is on the low end of the Divine Order Legendary spectrum in terms of card worth (~$6), but an extra Sudden Bloom which is great as it’s worth even more than the legendary haha (~$7.5).
I actually forgot to screenshot my Core Legendary pack but I got a Nemean Lion which is nothing to write home about.

IMO the Trial Spirits look a bit out of place in an aggro deck, you could do better by replacing them, maybe +1 Nokkvi and +1 Axewoman would help your early game stabilize more against Nature. I don't think the +1 health buff really helps that much in the deck. Otherwise, the deck looks pretty solid for a budget Aggro War, hope you do get more wins next weekend!

Thanks for the feedback! I initially didn't have them in there but I felt like there were a few of reasons why I included them: More bodies means more favor and less chance Nature RNG will hit the right person; second the +1 health can help the 2/4s stay on board longer providing more presence/tempo. Plus a 1.3 body can help pop Protected. Not going to lie I also looked up some decks too and they all had them haha. Definitely a good point though and maybe something else to keep me up at night haha
