A weekly recap of my Mythic Weekend Ranked experience, attempting to do a Free-To-Play (F2P) Gauntlet with all the Gods to show that they can all compete and get Legendary packs. Previously I’ve done Nature and War; this week I started with Magic.

Weekend 10 Feb 18th-20th

This is my first week with Structure Magic as my previous packs gave me a lot of the tools to build this type of deck, but I only ended up with 13 wins. I didn’t start playing with the planned deck until Friday though as the packs were late and I wanted to see if I can hold off buying the cards I was missing. The partially finished deck was doing great during the week, and I even beat a Board Wipe Death and a few Control War decks, but I didn’t get enough practice against Nature. Also, since there is no ramp in this deck I need a decent draw to maintain tempo.

Here’s the deck that I used, costing 0.0184 ETH or ~$46.

Matches

I initially thought this deck would be good against Nature as I had some spells and frontlines to defend against the initial buildup, but it seems I didn’t have enough as I lost 4 matches of the 7 that I played against Nature. I also played a lot of Control War this weekend for some reason, and I just couldn’t top them most of the time and had the same 3 out of 7 outcome. The removals and frontlines were great though against the Zoo Light decks, interestingly I only faced 2 Deception this weekend. I think that’s a tough matchup too if they end up stealing some of my more expensive tools.

Going Forward

When I lost against Nature, it was because they went wide early with Falling Star or Bladeflies then did some buff shenanigans like Wildfire, or they had higher health creatures early that I couldn’t deal with (Rabid Bears, Rhinos, Brazen Moose, etc.) I think going forward I want to double up on Shaped Blast, or add a Crystal Rain or Faraday Cage (for a Genesis investment). I thought I had enough damage at the beginning but the higher health or buffed Nature creatures can be a pain. The problem is, what should I replace in the deck? I’m thinking taking out the relic removal? I know this was a hot topic of debate here. It definitely helps against Enduring Shields and Jaguar Staves, but my main concern was Necroscepters, although I only played against 2 Deaths this time. What do ya’ll think I should do?? Maybe Trial of the False Reflection is too greedy? Snowstorm Spire is great against War's Slayer God Power, but maybe not that useful elsewhere?

Note that I am missing Polyhymnia, Aetheric Hydra which is usually a win condition for Control decks, but I recorded how many times the games actually get to 9 mana and it was less than 20%, so I don’t think it’s really worth it. A Trial of the False Reflection on any of my high mana minions would usually close out the game anyways. I’m open to other suggestions as well!

Last Week's Rewards

The Legendary pack I got was a pretty decent Nature starter pack haha, as it came with Finnian, Falling Star, Celestial Stag, and a Brazen Moose. Finnian has been going down in price but still in the top of Divine Order legendaries at ~$25, and Falling Star is a pretty worthy Epic at ~$10. The Core Legendary I got was the Deception one that’s worthless 😅

Matches are getting harder and I think this deck archetype doesn't match up that well with the current Nature/War decks due to how strong they can be if they get a good starting hand. Hope your next weekends go better!

Thanks! Yea I thought Magic Control would be a good counter to Nature but maybe it's not it. Of course getting some pricey cards like Archimedes Mirror would help. If I don't get to 15 in a couple of weeks I might try out Aether Magic instead!
