The Skill i Grew into; Rabbit Farming

Namaste @indiaunited,
Talking about "Skill"; When it comes to skills, people have different interests, mindsets, and understandings. Some may not even count certain things as a skill, but for me, I have an agricultural skill, a skill that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Agriculture has always been a cornerstone of my life. It’s what I grew up seeing, learning about, and exploring. It has shaped my interests, my growth, and my awareness. Simply put, it has always been everything to me.

In this week’s #contest, I will love to share my journey with one specific agricultural skill: Rabbit farming.
After I was posted to a new unit in the agricultural sector where i work, I found myself in a part of the farm I had never explored before; raising rabbits. At first, I didn’t know anything about them, their care, feeding, or breeding. But it was a job I had to do, and I had to deliver. So, I decided to learn.

Over time, I picked up the essential rabbitry skills: how to feed them with both fresh and formulated feed, how to care for the mothers and kittens, how to observe their health, vaccinate them when needed, and even understand their mating cycles. I have learnt to provide the right grasses to ensure mothers could produce enough milk for their young. I observed, studied, and practised every day, making sure I could handle all aspects of rabbit farming responsibly.

Have learnt that rabbit farming is not just about feeding and cleaning. It’s about observing subtle behaviours, noticing when a rabbit is uncomfortable or stressed, knowing when a doe is ready to mate, and even learning which kind of nesting material keeps her calm. I have spent mornings carefully checking their hutches, making sure the kits are safe and warm, and evenings preparing the right mix of feed to help them grow healthy and strong. I have learnt the joy of watching tiny, wobbly kits slowly grow into lively, curious rabbits, hopping around their enclosures with energy and life.

Not only the joy that comes with rabbits, sometimes there are challenges too, illnesses, loss, or times when a doe rejected her kits, but each challenge taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of careful observation. Every small success, like a litter growing healthy under my care, felt like a personal victory, a reminder that dedication can turn the unknown into mastery.

Today, looking at the rabbits have raised over the years, I feel a deep sense of accomplishment. This skill didn’t come from mere curiosity, it came from responsibility, dedication, and the willingness to grow into a role I had never imagined. Rabbit farming is my skill, my passion, and my story, and I am grateful to share this experience with this wonderful community that keeps inspiring me week after week.

Thanks to the organisers of this weekly #uicontest.
I remain @pascalukandy.
