Splinterlands - Silver Tournament Highlights πŸ”₯

Hello, everyone! πŸ–

I haven't posted anything in a while as I've been busy with work and I haven't had much time and energy to spare for Splinterlands but here come some cool highlights from a recent tournament.

It was a Silver level Wild tournament. I approached it by just renting a few meta cards from the old days that I can't really do without such as Kulu mastermind and Cornealus but otherwise I just try to do my best and not stress too much about the result.

Without having strong Modern summoners leveled up for Silver I'm at a clear competitive disadvantage against opponent that can freely use higher versions of Tofu, Lorkus and Nidhoggr.

However some of the old legendary summoners can keep up with these powerhouses from time to time and in the right context even less powerful summoners will do the trick.

I've got three battles to share from the first round, here they come!

In this match my opponent used Lux Vega with the water splinter whereas I chose Tarsa.
Even with his fancy summoner, my opponent still lost!

These were the parameters for the match. Having reach for free I decided to use the mana warden.
This little guy often end ups dying quickly due to the low health but in this case, thanks to Tarsa and the martyr effect he ended up doing some very meaningful damage before being taken out!

Grum with the shield effect is a great tank at this level and holds the line just for long enough to grant me the win, always near the brink of death like a true berserker! A real edge-of-your-seat battle.

Not too much to say for the restrictions of the next battle, it really could have gone in many different ways. I defaulted to Immortalis, always a solid summoner boasting both offence and defense!

In this case it turned out that my opponent wasn't using any magic attackers so it was really the shatter effect that determined the final outcome.

My only consideration with the battle rules was to use Krag, the gnaw, in order to "double-dip" and drown my opponent in poison thanks to the revive.

While I was using the armor from being revived effectively against my opponent's melee attacks he really didn't have much of a chance other than to take the beating because of the shatter.. this time Grum goes down pretty fast πŸ˜‰

A mention of honor goes of course to Delya, a costly recent purchase that will hopefully pay dividends in time.

And as the battle went on it was really a matter of wether or not Fina Voxom would slaugther my team but even with martyr and a kill or two the new Djinn Oshannus completely defused her and shut her down before she would be a problem. A nice win!

This next one was a bit perplexing to watch as I never believed to have any chance to win against that solid Kitty lineup but as it turns out the anasth soothsayer in the back ended up being the perfect counter against the venom from Doctor Blight.

I don't think my submission was all that great but it turned out to be solid enough to take down the legendary cat!

As usual, Kulu mastermind is one of the MVPs of the tournament. An incredible card that pairs up well with Baakjira, granting my team good sources of melee damage which turns out to be key against my opponent's void tanks.

This amazing card has recently been immortalized by @deddywox in his submission for the art contest. A truly great drawing! πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Going back to the match, it never looked easy but the double healing coupled with the cleanse were enough to always keep Baakjira in the fight and ever so slowly the swimhunter was able to wittle down the enemy lineup. Whatever little advantage I slowly managed to build was then decisive when the battle finally resolved through fatigue!

Lastly, one of my few wins from the second round.

These players came well equipped, as should be expected.

However all the fancy meta cards are not enough when there's a weakness that can be exploited.

My opponent really made sure that I couldn't take down his frontline but put his most damaging unit in the back and that was enough for me to win.

There's not really much to say here, I was able to take advantage of the reverse speed ruleset here to great effect thanks to the sand worm and the new grove doomblade unit.

It was luck at the of the day but I really like this battle for the idea that it represents.

The opponent might have some of the best cards available but in the right cirmustance it's still possible for lesser players to win!

In this match between the level 2 Lorkus and Sorriel my opponent was casually sporting a lineup with a market value of upwards of 160$, based on the current prices that you can check for yourself in the screenshots below.

All it took was a couple of humble cards that only go for a few cents but can be deadly in the right context. Isn't that beautiful??

Overall I've got some mixed feelings, as usual, about the game but these tournaments are always a fun opportunity for me to make use of both my Modern and legacy cards and to engage with Splinterlands in its purest form.

Some new things will come to the game soon, namely a new mini set for Modern, in the same vein of Riftwatchers, and maybe - just maybe - Survival mode will also come back at some point πŸ‘€

Anyway, I hope you liked the battles I shared here. See you another time! πŸ˜‰
