As the light gathered in the otherwise dark underwater cavern, the piles of kelp growing there were strangely affected. They came to life and formed into Kelp Initiates that quickly found their way out of the cave. They floated to the Mertropolis not as invaders or aggressors, but as healers and guides, bringing tidings from another world that exists far below this one. Hola gente bonita! Espero estén super bien todos y si no lo están, pronto lo estarán! Para participar en el social media de esta semana, quise hacer un fan art de "Kelp Initiate", el cual es un personaje que me gusto cuando lo vi hace ya un tiempo atrás y que de hecho, lo dibuje en tradicional, pero ahora lo vuelvo a hacer, pero esta vez en digital y en un estilo chibi, espero les guste.

I started doing the sketch in traditional, since it is more feasible for me to draw from the beginning in traditional and then go to digital, I still do not adapt 100% to the change of drawing in digital, I still have preferences to work in both traditional and digital, I could say that it is a combination of both worlds. Obviously I take the original character as a reference to structure my version of the character and as I said before, to make this drawing, I was inspired by the chibi style, which is a drawing style that tends to make or go for the most tender and beautiful side when drawing anything, which in this case is a character.

Comencé haciendo el boceto en tradicional, ya que es mas factible para mi dibujar desde un inicio en tradicional y luego pasar a digital, aun no me adapto al 100% al cambio de dibujar en digital, sigo teniendo preferencias en trabajar tanto en tradicional como en digital, podría decir que es una combinación de ambos mundos. Evidentemente tomo como referencia al personaje original para poder estructurar mi versión del personaje y como les dije anteriormente, para hacer este dibujo, me inspire en el estilo chibi, el cual es un estilo de dibujo que tiende a hacer o ir por el lado mas tierno y bonito a la hora de dibujar cualquier cosas, que en este caso es un personaje.

When I had the sketch ready, what I do is to pass it to the digital, to correct certain things of it and start cleaning it all up, leaving the sketch in general with a good and well defined line art. After that, what I do next is to start adding all the color work and for that, I just take the colors of the original character and I start putting together with the chromatic circle, a combination of colors that is harmonious for the drawing in general. The only thing I changed in my version, regarding the color work, was the green of his tail and hair, because I felt it was too green everywhere and I went for a reddish orange, which combines perfectly with the green of the character's skin.

Cuando tuve el boceto listo, lo que hago es pasarlo al digital, para corregir ciertas cosas del mismo y comenzar a limpiarlo todo, dejando el boceto en general con un buen line art y bien definido. Luego de eso, lo que hago después es comenzar a agregar todo el trabajo de color y para ello, solo tomo los colores del personaje original y voy armando en conjunto con el circulo cromático, una combinación de colores que sea armoniosa para el dibujo en general. Lo único que cambie en mi versión, en cuanto al trabajo de color, fue el verde de su cola y cabello, ya que sentía que era demasiado verde por todos lados y mejor me fui por un naranja rojizo, el cual combina perfectamente con el verde de la piel del personaje.

Once I add the base color in all the drawing, what I do is to start detailing everything, adding first the shadows and then I work the lights. To make the shadows, I used as main color a dark red, which in combination with the orange make a good color harmony, since they are analogous colors. After that, I went to add the lights, which to be honest I didn't struggle so much in that step, since I didn't want to highlight the character so much in that aspect and I wanted to leave it a little more dark and somber.

Una vez que agrego el color base en todo el dibujo, lo que hago es comenzara a detallar todo, agregando primeramente las sombras y luego trabajo las luces. Para hacer las sombras, use como color principal un rojo oscuro, que en combinación con el naranja hacen una buena armonía de color, ya que son colores análogos. Después de eso, me fui a agregar las luces, que para ser sincero no batalle tanto en ese paso, ya que no quería destacar tanto el personaje en ese aspecto y lo quise dejar un poco mas sombrío y oscuro.

To finish with the drawing, what I did was to add a line art in certain areas of the drawing, I made a background and added a few bubbles in the composition, since the character is supposed to be under the water and the bubbles help a lot to give that illusion. I add some sparkles in the drawing and that's it folks, that would be all.

Para culminar con el dibujo, lo que hice fue agregar un line art en ciertas zonas del dibujo, hice un fondo y agregue unas cuantas burbujas en la composición, ya que el personaje se supone que esta debajo del agua y las burbujas ayudan mucho a dar esa ilusión. Agrego unos brillos en el dibujo y listo amigos, eso seria todo.
