I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond ranked against Eternal Tofu. There are many people who want to nerf Eternal Tofu because it dominates the meta. However, it is still possible to beat. This time, I did it without any Rebellion cards. Every card is from the Chaos Legion core set or rewards set, except for my tank: Coeurl Lurker. That is the most expensive card in my team. That's not to say that Tofu isn't very good. But it is beatable, usually with teams that are cheaper than him.

This game had the following rule sets: Lost Magic, Briar Patch, and Explosive Weanponry. The mana cap was 48, with Fire, Death, and Earth available. I went with Conqueror Jacek, putting Coeurl Lurker as my tank. I put Venator Kinjo next, to protect against the Blast. The rest of my team was composed of ranged units: Firecaller, Lava Launcher, Supply Runner, and Countess Sinash. They opted for Eternal Tofu, with Mantaroth in front. Next, they had the Weapons Training combination of Grimbardun Smith, Ava the Undaunted, and Clockwork Aide. They finished it with Venka the Vile and Scavo Hireling. They gave Divine Shield and Corrosive Ward to Mantaroth, Grimbardun Smith, and Venka.

I had the speed advantage, so my units attacked first. I didn't manage to kill anything but Ava and Scavo took the most damage. Venka hit the attack, the following 2 missed, but Mantaroth with True Strike was able to finish my tank.

Scattershot RNG was in my favor, killing Venka and Scavo. However, they took out my Venatok and Firecaller, making it 4 of their units against 3 of mine. Thankfully, the rest of their attacks missed.

My team eliminated Ava and put Mantaroth at 5 HP. Since Clockwork Aide had the most armor, the Repiar from Mantaroth was going for the Clock instead for itself. My Supply Runner ended at just 2 HP.

I needed to deal 1 damage to Mantaroth before Lava Launcher attacked and I did. That meant my Lava Launcher could kill it. I got my wish and it left their team with only one attacker.

My team quickly finished the game.

It is true that Briar Patch makes the Tofu choice questionable since its most powerful ability is already present in the rule set. But it is still a very powerful summoner. Divine Shield and +2 HP were still strong abilities. However, Jacek is a beast in Explosive Weaponry. I even managed to win, after my tank quickly went down, which is not common for Jacek teams.
