Hello everyone! This is my second entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today, I'm sharing a battle of mine in Modern Champion Ranked.

I fought an interesting battle in Modern Champion ranked. My first post of the week was about Sheng Xiao and Heloise on the opponent's side. However, this time, I'm the one using Sheng Xiao. I called this post Sheng Xiao's Shenanigans, and it turned out to be a bit of a tongue twister. That was not intended, but it's funny. If Sheng Xiao works well with Heloise, it should also work nicely with Rebirth. You only get the effect twice instead of 4 or more, but that's still better than once. I decided to pair it with Moribund Arrowbait. Resurrect can work too, but it's less reliable because another unit might die first. Resurgence should work as well as Rebirth.

This game had the following rule set: Even Stevens. It was a 43 mana cap game, and only Dragon and Life were available. I went with Sheng Xiao and placed Moribund Arrowbait in front. I followed it up with the Weapons Training Combination of Grimbardun Smith, Rage, and Nimbledook Explorer. I finished the team with Arcane Skinwalker. They opted for Akane and used a similar Weapons Training combination: Grimbardun Smith, Rage, and Runeseer Sevaya. Next, they had two Mimic units: Olivia of the Brook and Palifala Weslinath. Their last one was Elanor Bravefoot. I gave Corrosive Ward and Poison Burst to the Moribund and the Explorer. Because of Palifala's Sneak, I expected the Explorer to be the second unit to die. They gave Ambush to Rage and Olivia.

Ambush Round

Rage and Olivia killed the Moribund, once each. Rage, Olivia, and Palifala got Poisoned for the Poison Burst.

Round 1

We traded attacks, and their Grimbardun went down to just 1 HP, while mine stayed at 5.

Round 2

Olivia gained Life Leech, which was scary because it can gain some HP to counter the Poison HP loss. Palifala gained Armored Strike, which wasn't great for me either, since it had 5 armor. My Skinwalker finished their Smith. However, their Rage was Cleansed because it went to the front position. My Smith and Explorer went down to 2 HP.

Round 3

Olivia gained Heal, and Palifala gained Corrosive Ward. Heal and Life Leech in the same unit is very scary. However, Olivia went down to 1 HP, while Palifala died from the Poison. Skinwalker and Rage finished their Rage, but Sevaya eliminated my Smith. Olivia went back to 4 HP between all her abilities.

Round 4

Olivia gained Affliction, but that wasn't enough to stop Skinwalker and Rage from taking out Sevaya and Olivia, one after the other. With only Elanor left, the Explorer finished the game.

I went into this game thinking I was gonna use Tofu, because that's usually the easy choice. However, with Even Stevens, I knew I could play Rage and Grimbardun Smith without having to face Venka the Vile. That led me to pick Akane. However, as I was making my team and looking to use the Moribund and Skinwalker, I thought about abusing Sheng Xiao with Rebirth. Ambush is very powerful, but with Grimbardun Smith, it could be a game that lasted for a few rounds. Getting extra attacks gets worse the longer the game lasts. If the game lasts just one or two rounds, those 2 extra attacks are a big percentage of the total attacks. If it lasts for 4 or more rounds, their importance gets diluted. The Poison gets better the longer the game goes. Akane and Sheng Xiao are opposites in that sense. I was very happy with my decision.
