Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Going the Distance - Fire vs. Water

Hello everyone! This is my first entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today I'm sharing a battle of mine in Modern Diamond Ranked.

I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond ranked. This game has the Going the Distance rule set. This is a rule set I don't really like. I'm not a fan of most restrictive rule sets and this one can lead to games that aren't very interesting. However, as long as the mana cap isn't too low and it isn't combined with other very restrictive rule sets, it can still be fun. Abilities like Headwinds, Shield, and Return Fire are obviously good picks. It's also a good idea to try to fit some dual-attack monsters to get some different types of attacks. Close Range is good to have, at least for the front unit.

This game has the following rule sets: Going the Distance and Taking Sides. Taking Sides is another restrictive rule set but it's one of the least restrictive, out of those. It's also balanced by Dragon being available, which opens up a few extra options. We both went with Quix the Devious but I picked Fire and they picked Water. I started with Lava Launcher for the Close Range, followed by Berix Snakeye, because it has a lot of HP and armor. I put Runic Skyclaw next because it is fast and has flying, it is good to get some dodges. Ash Mirage and Naga Assassin are next, with the Headwinds and Swiftness. I finished with the frail but powerful Countess Sinash. They put their own Naga Assassin in front, followed by Coastal Nymph and Berix Snakeye. Sea Stalker and Swamp Spitter were their next ones and they finished with Wave Brood.

I had much more damage than them, so I was able to take out their Wave Brood in round 1. Naga Assassin went down in round 2. The third round went even better for me as they lost Sea Stalker and Berix. In the following round I finished the game without losing a single unit.

My team had higher damage and nerfed the opposing attacks more than theirs. It also had more speed. The Return Fire wasn't enough to do anything to my side and I just overwhelmed them. Fire won this time!

What do you all think about this game? Would you have done anything different? Let me know in the comments! Thank you for reading!!
