Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - A Battle of Fatigue
Hello everyone! This is my second entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today I'm sharing a battle of mine in Ranked Modern Diamond. This battle went into fatigue because neither of us could defeat the other during the first 20 rounds
It was a crazy long battle!
Here's the battle: https://splinterlands.com/?p=battle&id=sl_8cfa91ff23bbb974bf7977fb354c78e5
This game has the following rule sets: Born Again, Aim True, and Counterspell. I went with the Grimbardun Smith strategy: Lily Shieldpaw for the summoner, Grumbardun Smith in the first position, Oshuur Constantia in the second slot for the Tank Heal and Blast protection, and Merdaali Guardian with Tank Heal and Repair. After this, I had 9 mana left. I went with Gem Meteor, against a possible opposing mirror strategy. I had 2 slots and 4 mana left, so I picked Naga Assassin and Vruz. With this mana, I think it would be very difficult to brute force my Grimbardun Smith by dealing more damage than I can heal and repair. I was hoping I didn't face Jacek or a mirror strategy. They went with a more general strategy of playing some good monsters. The only thing that scared me in their team was the Taunt plus Triage.
All the damage they did I always healed and repaired, every round. My ranged monsters would take Return Fire when they hit Wave Brood but I could heal that with Triage. There was nothing they could do against my team. It was a matter of waiting for Fatigue, to see if they could outlast me. However, I was able to get some kills here and there. On round 8 I take out Deeplurker for the first time. In round 13, it was Angelic Mandarin that lost their first life. In the following round it was Wave Brood's turn and in round 15 it died the second time. In round 20 it was Cruel Sethropod. At the start of round 21, Fatigue activated and things would speed up. It was easy to see the game was mine and I ended up only losing one monster twice: Vruz. Grimbardun Smith survived the whole game and the rest of the monsters had to Resurrect.
This is one of my favorite strategies. Since not everyone has this card because it's a promo and it's very expensive to max out, I often get free wins out of it! It's especially important to max it out because it only gets Repair at max level. There are many cards that you can easily use a few levels below max. Vruz already gets the most important ability at level 5 - Martyr. At level 8 it does everything the maxed version does. The max level might give you a very slight edge, sometimes. Not with Grimbardun Smith. I do believe more cards should be like this because that's the best way to make players want to max out their cards./div>

Thanks for the comment! It was decent but I lost a few unlucky games where I lost a lot of rating and I won a lot of games where I won very little rating. I wanted to compete for the Diamond leaderboards but since I couldn't, I moved up to Champion.
I try to stay far from the leaderboard. I do not possess the means to survive in this close circle of highly competent Sspliter
