Splinterlands: Strategy Over Power!

Hello Splinter fans, I hope you're all doing okay!
So, there's a flue epidemic starting in my country and yours truly was one of the first to receive it this time πŸ˜… so today I'm at the fifth day and it's slowly starting to improve again, it's really boring actually because I now have so much spare time but too much brain fog to do most things. πŸ˜…

The Splinterverse never stops so I tried to at least keep my energy below 50 on my accounts with varying results every day, but it's better than let it go to waste...

Posting challenges never stops as well and that's a good thing, let's see if I can make a nice looking post with still a little brain fog present! πŸ˜‚

BUT! I have a question first, what you think is better? receiving the rewards like we always did, 50% in staked hive power and 50% in HBD, or all in SPS? Inleo made a Splinterlands collaboration (which is awesome by the way!) so now you can earn SPS directly for your blogs, and I'm not entirely sure just yet how this will play out but I think all rewards are swapped to SPS directly to us?

image.png

I tested out inleo and made my post with it last week, unfortunately I didn't receive any LEO, why I don't know but the rewards are all displayed in SPS, so I think I will receive half of that, so that's 2300 SPS? (minus 5% beneficiary)
That's an awesome amount for 1 post of course, but I don't think it's great for Hive if that's the case... I think I prefer to receive my rewards the way they are now so I can grow my hive stake over time. πŸ™‚

Especially now with the new challenge rule:

To ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the Hive ecosystem, we will evaluate the long-term commitment of participants when selecting winners. Specifically, we will review past rewards earned and currently held Hive Power (HP) as part of the selection process.
Participants who demonstrate an investor mindset by holding and growing their HP are more likely to be rewarded. Those who consistently extract all rewards without reinvesting into the ecosystem may not be eligible for prizes.
This rule aims to celebrate and encourage commitment to the Hive blockchain, fostering a strong and engaged community.

I think this is great and prevents people from extracting 100%
(I wonder what the minimum HP is? because in the past I was an extractor too before I bettered my life and start saving.. I'm already over 1000HP, awesome!)

Okay, enough small talk, let's get on with today's challenge!

This weeks Social Media Challenge:

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks

πŸ”₯ Share Your Most Remarkable Splinterlands Moments: Do you possess a battle of epic proportions that deserves to be seen by all? Have you crafted something extraordinary within the Splinterlands realm? Maybe you've got profound thoughts, insights, or strategies related to stats, cards, abilities, or gameplay that are waiting to be shared? We want it all, and we want it to be nothing short of AMAZING!

This morning, right before I was starting to make this post I was grinding my gold level account, I already see the new challenge but didn't have much inspiration and then I met a well known player in this ecosystem, it's davemccoy! He's one of early players from when splinterlands was still called steemmonsters I think, I'm only around from 2021 so I can only tell what I heard from these early days, it must have been pretty cool!

This battle took place 62 minutes ago and I was excited that I was able to beat someone with so much more combat power than me so it would be a nice topic for this weeks post!

image.png

My battles this morning on my Diamond account had been pretty rough, I kept being kicked down again when I went above 2700 rating, I've pushed in to Diamond 3 in the days before this but it's though now. With my energy drained to 15, I figured I'll take this on tomorrow and switch to my gold account, where things were a bit better, pretty crazy to see I'm only 200 rating below my account with higher level summoners and much stronger cards, meaning there's A LOT of competition is this area!

image.png

Looking at @davemccoy's stat's it's crazy to see he is close to 50.000 battles! 😡 That's some serious grinding!

The power difference is humbling to say the least, most of my power is delegated to my other account, but even at this number the difference is 6 times my total power!
And for clarity, this post is not at all about making fun of the player who loses, because I get beaten all the time as well, but exactly because of that fact, wins like these keep me going and it's exciting even when you lose sometimes, it's why I love this game, strategy is more important than powerful cards.

The Battle.

The battle I want to share for this post is a 35 mana Lost Magic / Target Practice / Melee Mayhem battle fought in the Modern League with only the Earth, Death and Dragon splinters open to be chosen from. Without magic, the use of a tank with the shield ability is very important and because my death team has some cool lower mana cards I decided to go that way but because Thadius nerfs magic, I choose Quix as my summoner.

First look at the battlefield:

O crap! That was my first reaction upon seeing this team, Lux Vega is a very strong summoner and it's a nice team, I have a level disadvantage, there is a big difference between gold and diamond level Chaos Legion cards where a lot of the tanks (Pelacor Deceiver, Diemon Shark, Pelacor Mercenary) received the retaliate ability at max level which is a huge difference and that Acid Shooter will spread it's poison all over my team...
Combined with another awesome card - Venka the Vile, doing 5 melee damage with piercing, safely tucked away in the third position, there's no chance I'm going to win this so I just pressed 'SKIP BATTLE'...

I won!? how did that happen!? πŸ˜‚

REPLAY!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - reason: Better option as nerfing magic in a no magic battle.
  • First position: Harklaw - reason: Shield.
  • Second position: Crypt Beetle - reason: Another shield!
  • Third position: Venari Marksrat - reason: Martyr.
  • Fourth position: Possessed Puppet - reason: Double Striker.
  • Fifth position: Ravenhood Warden - reason: Protect and Inspire.
  • Sixth position: Cursed Windeku - reason: Thorns against sneakers with self heal.

The Battle:

Round 1: Nothing exciting happened in this round just yet, both our tanks took heavy damage, let's see how this goes in the next round.

image.png

Round 2: The start is pretty even, both of our tanks died, and without thorns my Possessed Puppet can really shine in this battle, it even outperforms Venka in damage, hopefully the retaliate doesn't kill it!
I very rarely use this card but it's true, every cards has it's use case.

image.png

Round 3: Wow.. the RNG gods are definitely on my side in this battle, acid shooter didn't poison anyone, the retaliate didn't kill my Puppet and now this is looking very good!

image.png

Round 4: Only Hill Giant left, there's not a lot of chance my Puppet is going to miss both of it's attacks with a 6 - 2 speed advantage.

image.png

Round 5: It's a win against all odds!!

image.png

Some nice glint and SPS rewards too, I think I'm going to let my energy recharge and rent some SPS for the rest of the season to boost my rewards since most of my staked SPS is on my other account, I never have enough!

You can watch this battle unfold for yourself here.

That's it for today everyone, hopefully I didn't make any crazy mistakes in this post, and now I'll probably watch another Marvel movie and fall asleep again (and not because I don't like them!)
