Splinterlands - Olivia, she steals and dominates!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, we just has our Splinterlands End of Season, so it's a fresh start for everyone again!
For readers unfamiliar with Splinterlands - we have seasons in Splinterlands that take about two weeks, at the end of every season we can spend the glint tokens we earned in our battles to buy lot's of things like chests or certain rarity draws to further upgrade our decks, win more, earn more glint (and with it SPS) and on and on, so basically it's a small celebration twice a month as a Splinterlands player!

This week's post is a little different for me, I'm used to make all of my posts on peakd, but this time I'm trying something new, I'm using inleo.io because they told me on X I would earn LEO tokens for my post as well, more earnings for the same effort is never a bad thing so let's go!

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks, but that's not a bad thing because we can go many ways with this challenge!

🔥 Share Your Most Remarkable Splinterlands Moments: Do you possess a battle of epic proportions that deserves to be seen by all? Have you crafted something extraordinary within the Splinterlands realm? Maybe you've got profound thoughts, insights, or strategies related to stats, cards, abilities, or gameplay that are waiting to be shared? We want it all, and we want it to be nothing short of AMAZING!

To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the Splinterlands post here.

Today I will be talking about one of the cards we can earn with spending the glint tokens, it's the Epic monster Olivia of the Brook.

Have you ever read the lore for Olivia? It's short but pretty cool, it's a bit as the story for Robin Hood!

When the Chaos Empire swept across Praetoria and conquered the Kingdom of Lyveria, many of its citizens were conscripted into its legions. Among them was the druid Timotai, who sacrificed his own freedom to ensure his young daughter, Olivia, escaped.
She fled into the wilderness with her snow leopard, Cloudy, where she learned to forage and survive. She spent her days practicing the druidic magic her father had taught her, and she vowed to help her people break the chains of oppression.
With time and determination, her power grew. She used it to strike against empire depots, patrols, and outposts before vanishing once more into the shadows. And she delivered food, medicine, and other supplies to villagers and townsfolk.
The legend of Olivia of the Brook and her snow leopard grew. The empire put a sizable bounty on them. Legionnaires set traps and laid ambushes. Yet their knowledge of the wilderness made Olivia and Cloudy impossible to track and capture.
In spite of the ever growing danger, Olivia’s resolve has never wavered. She and Cloudy have become symbols of freedom. Her actions have shown the people of Lyveria that, if a young girl can have the courage to stand against an empire, they too can find it within themselves to rise up and fight for their freedom.

This is just text I borrowed from the Splinterlands site, we also have challenges to expand the lore and make a bigger tale for those monsters, I think next time I will choose Olivia for this, I really like these kind of challenges!

When we look at her stats, she's pretty useless at level 1 because she only receives her key ability mimic at level 2, mimic allows her to steal 1 ability from any monster on the battlefield every turn, in long battles she can become really overpowered this way, but in most cases you have to protect her well so she can survive the first rounds and let her do her thing, stealing!

I currently own her as a level 3 on this account and her next key level is level 5 so I do not expect to get here any time soon, my other account will be my Modern account after the rotation in April, and I will be a silver player again in modern because the new sets are a lot more expensive.
Level 3 is max for silver so I'm working to get her at level 3 for my other account as well! 🙂

Hmm.. one difficulty I see so far is not every line-up code I use on peakd works here, I'm trying to put text to the right of an image, the code I usually use doesn't work so if anyone knows how to do that on @inleo let me know please! 😉

At the beginning of round 2 and each following round, gain a random ability from the enemy team. 25% chance to gain a random ability from an attacker when hit. Dispel removes one mimicked ability in the order they were gained. Debilitations, Targeting abilities, Ambush, Weapons Training, Flank, Reach, Charge, and Taunt cannot be mimicked.

Show us a battle!

Enough talk, time for a battle for sure, let's go!

The battle I have saved to share in this post is from last season, it's against @mystic7957 I face every now and then, and it's pretty much 50/50 who wins 😆
In my Pokemon Go time, there was a YouTuber called Mystic7... is it the same person? 🙂

This battle is a 21 mana Modern League, Wands Only / Weak Magic / Four's a Crowd battle with only the Life and Dragon splinters open to be chosen, the four monsters cap isn't a problem with this low mana amount we can use, let's see if we can make a nice team, the tank is pretty obvious for me, it's Void Dragon so I have to go for Quix to unlock the Dragons!

First look at the battlefield:

Well we both choose Quix, but my opponent didn't use the Void Dragon, which is good for me, the Affliction can be a problem because it will stop my healing!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Quix the Devious - reason: Access to the dragons.
  • First position: Void Dragon - reason: Void!
  • Second position: Meriput Magician - reason: Heal.
  • Third position: Olivia of the Brook - reason: The star of this battle, let her steal it all!

The Battle:

Round 1: Only half the team is doing damage against my dragon so that's nice, affliction dropped right away so that's not very good...

Round 2: Oh! Olivia stole her first ability and it's affliction, that's going to be key in this battle when she's able to drop it soon!

Round 3: Dang... my tank is almost dead and the other team is still receiving healing...

Round 4:Ah! there's the affliction on Dax, no more healing for him, I'm not out of the woods just yet...

Round 5: My Magician got killed... but Olivia stole the resurrect ability and brough her back alive, not a biggie because she will die fast but it's at least 1 extra hit she absorbs.

Round 6: It's Olivia alone now, this is starting to be a thriller, who said low mana battles are boring!? 4 HP vs. 8 HP, and affliction didn't drop on the healer, Olivia has two attacks so hopefully it drops next turn.

Round 7: There's the affliction but it may be too late, however Olivia now stole the healing ability! Will she be able to survive this!?

Round 8: 4 HP vs. 4 HP now, she did it, she will heal 2HP every turn, it's the damage Adelaide is doing, it's a win!

Fast Forward to Round 10

It's a win!!
Olivia was able to steal key abilities and uses this against the other team!

1.8 SPS for the win, not very good but I'll take it! 😁
the glint was boosted last season so that was pretty nice!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

These are the reasons I really love this game, the strategy is so deep the options are almost endless and never stops to surprise you.
The earnings can feel low but just keep grinding and build our decks, great times will surely come for us!
