Splinterlands: How to use Custom Challenges to your advantage!

challenges.jpg

Hi everyone and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, it's a bit early for me to make my second blog post of the week but I need to work most of the day tomorrow although it's a Saturday, sometimes this happens...

So, without any further ado, let's go!

This weeks Community Engagement Challenge is about making another explainer post, or support article about the custom challenges feature inside the game, for the people unfamiliar with this, it's a great way to test out new ideas or strategies because sometimes we as splinterlands players think of certain combinations that should work great, but of course this needs to be tested!

In the past we already had a challenge mode, but the rulesets and mana cap and available splinters were always randomized so it could take ages before you had a suitable battle to test out your strategy, that sucked!

No more! The splinterlands team is working their ass off to improve the game in so many ways, and this was one of them!

Challenge Theme: Custom Challenges
Custom Challenges are a fantastic way to spice up gameplay, test strategies, and build connections within the Splinterlands community. This week, we invite you to share your expertise and creativity by writing guides that explore the many possibilities of Custom Challenges.

To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the Splinterlands post here.

What Are Custom Challenges?

Custom Challenges in Splinterlands are player-created battles that allow you to create a match to specific rules and settings. Unlike Ranked Play or Guild Brawls, these challenges are designed for fun and experimentation, giving you full control over the gameplay experience. They’re perfect for testing strategies or simply enjoying a unique match with friends and teach them how to play the game.

Aspects of Custom Challenges to Customize

One of the best features of Custom Challenges is the level of customization available. Here’s a breakdown of the key aspects you can modify:

  • Mana Cap: Set the total mana limit for summoning monsters. Low mana caps encourage strategic decision-making, while high mana caps let you unleash powerful combinations.

  • Available Splinters: Restrict the splinters (elements) players can use, forcing creative team-building within specific constraints.

  • Battle Rulesets: Add or combine unique rulesets like “Earthquake” or “Target Practice” to create unpredictable and exciting matches.

How to Challenge Other Players

Creating and sharing a Custom Challenge is simple. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Initiate the Challenge:

From the Splinterlands interface, select the “Challenge” option, you can find this in the top right part of your screen on the main page, marked with the green arrow in the picture below.

Customize Settings:

Choose your opponents In Game Name, preferred mana cap, available splinters, rulesets, and summoner level.

Summoner Level caps are:

  • Novice - All level 1 cards
  • Adept - Bronze level cards
  • Intermediate - Silver level cards
  • Advanced - Gold level cards
  • Expert - Diamond (or max.) level cards

Fun and Creative Rulesets to Try

To make your Custom Challenges truly memorable, experiment with creative and unconventional rule sets. Here are a few ideas:

All-One Splinter Battles

Restrict both players to the same splinter. For example, “Fire vs. Fire” battles push you to master the nuances of a single element.

Low-Mana Duel

Set a mana cap of 12 to 20, These matches emphasize efficiency and clever card choices, as every point of mana counts.

I have not use the challenge system much but i like the feature. Can also be useful to test some new cards with different strategies.

Have you been using it a lot, already?

To be honest I don't because I just play casually, I experiment in ranked play and don't care if I lose, it's all about having fun.
For new or top players this is a great feature though 👍
