The Great Pickle Pull: A Splinterlands Promo Play That Paid Off (Sort Of)

In the ever-evolving world of Splinterlands, few things bring as much anticipation—and chaos—as a new promo card release. This time, it was the Pickle promo, and like many players, I had some decisions to make. Should I go all in or hold back for bigger goals?

Initially, my plan was to play it safe. With my sights still set on building out my Conclave Arcana collection, I was accumulating funds and didn't intend to tap into my full SPS staking potential just yet. But as we all know, the best-laid plans in Splinterlands tend to unravel quickly.

The limiting factor? The 1,000 ticket cap per pull. I started off with a batch of 1,000—thinking it would give me a decent spread and maybe a surprise. What I got instead was a batch of regular foils and an underwhelming count of Gold Foils. Not exactly thrilling.

But I wasn’t done. With 1,837 total tickets, I knew I was supposed to hit a Black Foil somewhere in there. So I went for the second batch of 837… and boom: not one, but two Black Foils and enough to put together a maxed Gold Foil as well. The gamble paid off. Sort of.

Now, let's be honest—the secondary market prices haven’t exactly soared, and the card’s power is still up for debate across the community. But from my perspective, it was worth it. The overall cost was reasonable compared to previous promos, and the collection power boost is exactly what I need heading into the Conflicts—which remain one of my top areas of focus.

Gameplay-wise, I don’t think the Pickle is a bad card at all. It adds a quirky layer to deckbuilding, and watching how the community adapts and experiments is part of the fun. More importantly, this promo marks a shift—it sets the stage for new fortune and auction mechanics tied to Arcane variants. Whether or not it builds broader excitement in the ecosystem, time will tell.

At the end of the day, the Pickle Pull wasn’t just about one card—it was about staying connected to the game, engaging with the community, and setting myself up for what’s coming next. And while I may not have pulled a jackpot in terms of value, I definitely pulled in some momentum.

Let’s see what the Arcana brings…
