A Strategic Shift: Moving from Research to Aura for Conclave Arcana’s Midnight Potions

Let’s be clear: this wasn’t a move I made lightly.
I’ve been accumulating Research Points for over a year, investing time and resources with long-term goals in mind. But the moment the update dropped and the details around Midnight Potions were revealed, I knew I needed to pivot. These new potions—essential for improving the chances of pulling the elusive Black Foil cards—can only be crafted using Aura, a brand-new resource produced by the new Aura Labs on magical plots.
With Black Foil cards offering unique advantages both in gameplay and collectability, the potential upside is massive. I figured if I’m going to open a meaningful number of Conclave Arcana packs, I’ll need Midnight Potions to maximize value—and the only way to secure a steady supply was to start producing Aura myself.
The cost? About 20% of my accumulated Research Points—a painful but calculated sacrifice.
To me, it’s worth it. I already have a solid bank of Research, and I can always switch back in the future if needed. But opportunity windows like this don’t come around often, and I believe those who can produce Midnight Potions early will have a serious advantage—whether through opening packs themselves or selling into what’s already shaping up to be a high-demand market.
What I love most about this move is how it highlights the depth of the Splinterlands economy. We’re not just battling in matches—we’re making high-stakes resource decisions, speculating on market demand, and aligning land strategies with in-game updates. It’s a game within a game, and those who pay attention and adapt quickly can position themselves far ahead of the curve.
I’m eager to see how this plays out in the coming weeks. With Conclave Arcana on the horizon and the race for Midnight Potions heating up, I’m feeling confident that the shift from Research to Aura was the right call.
Let’s see how much magic these Magical plots can really deliver.

Good luck, and we’re looking forward to your upcoming reports on Aura Labs’ performance.
I switched 3/4 of my research labs to Aura.
Why did you have to sacrifice 20% research production? You could have harvested it first?
The Cost of the permits for the Aura Labs represented 20% of the research production I had done to date. It will not impact my position on the inception to date amount for my Magister title but it could lead to be short on something else in the future.
Seeing as it is the only thing one can do with research now and still counts towards Secrets of Praetoria (whatever that is!) I think its very worthwhile to build Aura Labs.
I just went for one mega plot, made a tidy sum selling potions. I think Stone is the best trade now. I took my runi off Aura and back on my one leg quarry.
The only reason to carry on producing potions now is for self use, possibly Aura will have another use case in the future so I'm gonna stack some and then I might just change that plot back to a grain farm!
