Gods Unchained - The Flamecaller Deadly Trap

Hello Everyone,

What an amazing ride it has been the last weeks playing Gods Unchained. To say that it has been challenging has been an understatement. I have been riding the wave to touch near Auric Gold but then have been battered back down again with some crazy strong decks.

I have been mostly playing with my Zombie and Nature decks, but also I setup my first Deception deck but it was really tough to get used to playing this so far.

This week though I have been experimenting with the Deadly ability and the powerful Flamecaller. The idea is to trap my opponent with Flamecaller killing all cards as they are played.

In my Zombie deck I have been using Apep's Doomcaller to give Flamecaller the deadly ability.

Once he is killed he passes on deadly to every friendly creature including Flamecaller who then deals 1 damage to each enemy creature at the end of his turn.

In my Deception deck, I am using him too plus there are some more options like:

Adding two Uncanny Rogues into the lineup can increase the chances of being able to activate poison on Flamecaller.

Weekend Ranked

I am still struggling in the weekend ranking, I pulled off 11 wins from 18 last weekend and ths was 3 wins short of getting the coveted MJ Rare pack.

Somehow I had 10 pack openings today which was great to see. Here you can view my pack openings. I was happy that I got a few cards that I wanted.

My Collection and Earnings

Since my last update, my collection has grown to 820 (717) plain cards and 183 (158) meteorite cards. The value in $GODS tokens is 294 (274). In USD$ this is 66,53. Still quite far off from reach triple digits yet, but we are still in a bear market.

My current level is 91 and I am still playing each day to try and get the 3 wins at least.

Here is my latest acquired cards, I pulled an Uncanny Rogue when I just bought 2 copies recently.. these things happen though. I will pick out a few cards to forget and sell on the market to boost my $GODS token amount. I have been spending them like a drunken sailor on the market but I have my eye on a couple of expensive cards.

The Flamecaller Deadly Trap - Today's Battle

After last week getting collared in a match where they turned their Flamecaller deadly, I have been trying to optimise my decks to implement this trap. A few times players have seen this danger straight away and try to avoid it. Today I manage to implement the deadly, which trapped my opponent until he got a damage spell to free himself. Unless the monster has armor, usually playing any card would get him obliterated by Flamecaller 😃

Flamecaller is not an expensive card at 0,404 $GODS ($0,08) but can be useful to inflict repeated damage for as long as you can keep him in play.

He costs 5 mana and the deadly card I combine him with costs also 5 mana, so they need to be played one after the other somehow. I usually play Flamecaller first in case Apep's Doomcaller would get destroyed first.

You can see that it has a quite good win rate so far, but this is in the lower league. I think this would drop quite quickly once I reach Auric Gold again.

You can see also here that my recent tweaks to my nature deck have not been good and I can't find a win anywhere. I also was not able to win with my Deception deck yet.

Token earnings seem to be lower and it is getting harder to earn those $GODS tokens.

I'm sure the deadly flamecaller is fun when it goes off, but it's not a viable strategy at higher ranks. The combo with Apep is really clunky and hard to pull off. Further, the 1/3 Flamecaller at 5 mana is going to get removed immediately. At lower ranks, you may occasionally catch someone, but the reasons I've given is why no one in mythic runs it.

I have seen a few Dart Thrower + Rogue combos in Mythic. It's not meta, but each of those cards can be useful on their own and the dart thrower is cheaper. (I still don't recommend it.)

Yeah, it is just some fun for cheap decks. As most players will have a spell of some kind in higher leagues. I am thinking I need to go the Anubian route with Queen Neferu and keep killing her and shuffling back into my deck.

Hey bro go to Autric goldd so we can see each other hehe. I'm pretty much hardstuck auric gold. :( Too many people getting good and not sure but I feel some just don't belong there and deranking but I have no proof so :x

Good move to use "Ray of Disintegration" to kill that creature with "armor 3", I use "Void Flash" which is "4 mana" and I destroy one of my zombies to eliminate the strongest of my rival.👍👍👍

Thanks for the tip, I will check out Void Flash too. Thats a good idea when we have plenty of zombie cannon fodder!

I remember the time when I used to have this card on the war deck that I am using when I a starting out with GU. It is a very solid card and can wreak havoc especially when it is sitting behind multiple creatures and structures.

Yeah it is good fun for the lower leagues, for Auric Gold and higher it is too weak.
