The Dream US Roadtrip

family_roadtrip

I have never been to the US but it was always my dream to do a road trip across the US and as a baseline for travelling, I always thought that route 66 would be the one to do. This was before I was married and had a family.

Back then I had envisioned a lads road trip "The Hangover" style with some of my friends. This would involve hiring a humvee like Arnold Schwarzenegger had and rolling across the US in style.

A few years later in my 30s and a large wake-up call. I still didn't make it to America and my vision changed to backpacking and hiking the Appalachian trail and some more interesting pursuits.

With the luxury of an RV and now married and with kids in my 40s a more relaxing chilled family road trip would now suit me better! However, it is such a huge country that I would start with a shorter road trip from New York to Miami.

We could do more sightseeing and some family-orientated activities and at a much slower pace.

First off I would start in New York and visit the famous Times Square and check out the Statue of Liberty. I really would like to take the nighttime helicopter flight and get a good feel of the city. I think a flight from above would be really impressive.

To give you a feel of what it looks like, here is the company offering the tours:

After a few days in the big apple which would include a trip across the famous Brooklyn Bridge and breakfast at Central Perks, we would head to Atlantic City. There I would like to look out to the Atlantic ocean and walk along the promenade. I believe there is an amusement park there too.

The next stop on the way would be Washington. Here I would like to view the Whitehouse mainly and get the token photo. After a day or 2 there we would push on.

Next, we would head down towards Miami. Hugging the coast as much as possible. Along the way, there are many beautiful beaches and sights to see. This could take a few weeks, stopping in remote places and enjoying the tranquillity.

Once in Florida, we would go to Disney World Orlando for a few days as this is on the to-do list of the kids. Next up I would like to head to Miami beach.

There I have heard there is an old art-deco district with buildings from the 1930s. I would like to hang out there and enjoy the food and beach life.

Do you have any dream vacations planned?

Thanks for reading.

First we need to build a big enough stack of crypto! 😃😅

Well I am on that one already, but as my day job does not require me to remain in Spain (although I know my manager would appreciate me living near an office) I might not have to wait. I just need to make sure that the country has enough to offer a crypto retiree 😉

How about Bitcoin beach in El Salvador? 😊
I'm thinking of checking it out when we go for our Mexican residency documents. Costa Rica isn't what it used to be, I hear. Aruba...hmmm, not sure either. I used to live on St. Martin and loved it there. Part of my heart is in Asia, so I will always want to go back there. But not until this craziness is over...and we've kicked some governments to the curb.😆

Well Aruba, Bunaire Curacoa or ST Martin the Dutch part are all fine with me, BitcoinBaby Beach yes if things develop as expected in El Salvador over the next 2 years but do check it out plzz. I still also have Philipines and Indonesia on my list, but guess they are worse than America Latina atm.

Still I am okay in Spain but I would love to try something new.

I like Bonaire, and Aruba. Curacao, I've never been to but heard better things about the other two. Cuba is pretty cool! There are so many nice places here in the area haha.
I actually like the French side of St. Martin more. At least when I was there.
If you ever get into trouble there, all you need to do is cross the border.
Done that numerous times when cops followed us because they'd think we were up to something LOL. It'd probably be different now though, now that I look more respectable. 😇

Yeah, Philippines and Indonesia are quite strict atm and I wouldn't want to get stuck there if they decide to go crazy again.

Yeah, El Salvador is definitely on my list, as well as Brazil, and Nicaragua. There's supposed to be a little hippy beach town with a population of less than 20k but where all the old surfing legends struck down and are now teaching new talent. It's ONE place I want to check out because it sounds just like my kinda place.

Ohh man dont start about Nicaragua, it´s the reason I want to live in America Latina I had such an amazing stay there. Stayed in Managua with a local family for 3 weeks and it was the only time I cried leaving a country.

That would be a great trip @mypathtofire 😎 I traveled through Florida to explore a few times.
Don’t miss out the most southern tip of Florida, Key West. You should include it 😉
Miami has Little Havana that’s a great district 🥰 had fun times there.

Interesting choice. But 2 months is a LONG time to be hanging around any of those places, even combined hehe. From the moment you get to Florida, trust me, you DON'T want to drive the coastline. I did this once, and we made sure to get back on the main highway asap.
It was horrible haha. After about 2 hours, you've seen the oceanic scenery, and the small towns with one church, one school, one gas station, rednecks, and burning crosses. Oh wait, the latter weren't there but I was kinda expecting them soon 😅.
I LOVE Miami. Lived in New York for a little while. Nice for a visit indeed.

Atlantic City? Yeah, I'm biased probably. 😆
The coastline down towards Florida should be sweet though. Lots to see there.
Great post!

Hahaha, that's funny. And COOL too! That's the way to do it.
I've always wanted to drive one of those huge RVs. They seem so cool.
But I'd settle for a winnebago if I had to haha.

Dream Big!

🙂 Yeah, Id need to dream pretty big to get one! 😆

I don't know if they have snakes or scary insects there, but I could also do a tent. Although I think they have alligators so it might not be so good.

Yah, gators pretty much all the way up to Georgia I believe. Snakes are pretty much part of the whole of the US, except for maybe the colder areas like New York, Minnesota etc. Although I'm quite sure they have them there too. So yeah, you might want to rethink that tent haha.

🙂 Yeah, Id need to dream pretty big to get one! 😆

Then DO IT! 😉

My wife and I are getting ready to head out on our first camping trip of the season this weekend. We have several planned actually. All in the state of Michigan. One of them is going to be about six to seven hours of driving and that never even takes us out of the state! If you ever get around to doing your trip, hit me up and I might have some suggestions for you to adjust!

That sounds cool and a lot of fun. I saw your truck and camper. They are much bigger than the ones we have in Europe. We don't have too much planned here except a 12-13hr drive to Croatia where we will rent a fixed caravan.

Thanks for your kind offer! 😎

My wife's cousin and her boyfriend did something like that a while ago. They flew over there and rented a caravan and drove it all over Europe. The pictures were amazing. They had a blast.

Oh! I so hope you get to go on your dream US road trip! Your itinerary sounds like a blast! I've been to most of the states west of the Mississippi River (and quite a few to the east of it!) My dream road trip would be to do the entire East coast as that's the only part of the country I haven't really explored besides The Great Lakes Region. And you are so right, my country is huge!
